A Shadowed Gathering
Ara rubbed the slightly damped cloth down her skin before dipping it back into the basin of steaming water. Winter had lasted longer than expected and resulted in her taking a bath longer than usually just to keep warm.
The fire kept her warm at night but would soon burn out due to the morning chill. Her water supplies kept getting lower and lower and she had to visit the old frozen lake miles away to gather more.
She rung the cloth out before drying herself off. The cold air was able to dry her off quickly and she quickly began dressing, tying the strings tight by her .
The warm water always left her hair dry and knotted together. She reached for her comb and gently tried to comb through her hair wincing slightly as she moved along.
She planned to go into town for the day. She need to get fresh eggs and wanted to go to the gathering tonight.
She was 16 and of ripening age. The day she first bleed she knew she had become a woman. Many fine man were to be there and she hoped maybe one was willing to court her. She had read the many stories of love in the old books her mother had stowed away.
After her mother died she had invested in a horse to take her into town. The town of Semmi was very big and filled with people from many walks of life. Most were farmers, as the town thrived of livestock and agriculture. She was hoping to see Mr. Kim today. Mr. Kim was a publisher she was very fond off. She was hoping he would be interested in reading her writing.
“Mr. Kim!” she yelled as she ran across the dirt road to where he stood in front of his store.
“Hello, Ms. Choi. What are you scavenge ring the markets for today.” He asked unlocking his office. He sits down at his worn out desk with piles of books from inspiring writers.
“well, I’m in need of some eggs -“ she began.
“ Ah, eggs its seems you tend to need those every morning. Today , yesterday , the day before. It’s really quite unusual.” He stated.
“yes, I know Mr. Kim , it’s just that I would appreciate it if-“
