Finally
Behind the Mask [Bangtan]Mallory sat quietly on her hospital bed, like she had ever since her parents had arrived, and watched as her mother and father fussed about her. Zhen sat beside her, watching her parents as well. “Have they been like this since they got here?” Zhen whispered, and Mallory nodded. “Do they always fight like this?” Mallory nodded again.
Pierre looked over at the two and frowned. “Les filles ne doivent pas entendre ce.” Jane looked to Mallory and Zhen and nodded. Both turned towards the door and moved out into the hall.
Mallory let out a sigh. “Good god, they’ve been an elephant in the room ever since they got here.” She said, shaking her head. “Père has been fighting the doctors all day. He wants me out of here by tomorrow.”
“They can’t do that, can they?”
Mallory nodded. “They can. And they will. But that doesn’t really matter.” She angled herself towards her friend. “Tell me how everything’s been since I got put in this hell hole.”
Zhen smiled. “Well, I signed the papers saying Cho Hee and Dae Hyun are legally my guardians the morning of my birthday,” This made both girls wince a little. “And then Jungkook might have referred to me as his girlfriend,” Mallory squealed at this and squeezed Zhen’s arm. Zhen laughed and shook her head. “So we’re using those terms now. And he’s all jealous about Ha-Neul and Ha Jae-”
“The Ha-Neul and Ha Jae? As in, the first foster family Ha-Neul and Ha Jae?” Zhen nodded. “Oh my god! They’re here?”
Zhen nodded. “Jun Hyun didn’t know we knew each other and brought him by so we could collaborate together. And then today, when Jungkook and I were at the village, they showed up with Ha Jae in tow, and then we went out to lunch.” She laughed. “I wish you could have seen the look on Jungkook’s face when I asked him if he was jealous.”
Mallory laughed. “You’re so cute. I can’t believe he was jealous of those two! God, you guys practically came from the same womb! But the other two aren’t here?”
She was referring to Ha-Neul and Ha Jae’s other brother, who was right smack in between the two in age, and their oldest sister. From what Zhen had heard, the older sister, Ha-Na, was working as an executive, and the middle brother, Ha Joon, had taken over their father’s shipping business. “No, they’re still in China. I don’t think I’ll be hearing from them for a bit, but maybe soon.”
Mallory nodded. “That’s good though, that they’ve found you again. I mean, they meant the world to you.” Zhen laughed and nodded her head. She opened to speak, but the door opened and Suga and Jungkook hurried in. “We’ll talk later.” Mallory whispered, as Suga stalked towards the bed.
“Did you eat your pepero?” He asked, coming to a stop beside her. Mallory looked down at her blankets, where she had stashed the pepero, and nodded her head. “You better not be lying.”
Zhen’s head snapped in their direction. “You are not trying to feed her that sugary crap, are you?” Zhen asked.
Suga raised an eyebrow. “The doctor said fats and sugars were important to help-”
“Suga! She has a strict diet! She can’t eat that crap!” Zhen turned towards Mallory and frowned. “She’s a model, for crying out loud.”
Suga sighed. “And she’ll never model again if she doesn’t get the strength to get out of this bed on her own.”
The door creaked opened once more, and Cho Hee stuck her head into the room. She smiled to Mallory, and waved. “Hello dear. You’re looking better, but I’m afraid I’m going to have to steal Zhen and Jungkook now.” She said, gesturing for the two to follow.
Zhen turned a glare at Suga. “This isn’t over, Min Yoongi.” She said, climbing off the bed. “I’ll see you later, Mallory,” Zhen said, patting her friends hand before moving towards the door. “Remember, Song Yi gets back from her international today, so she’ll probably stop by to see you.” She called before moving out of the room, Jungkook following close behind.
Suga raised an eyebrow. “Song Yi was out of the country?”
Mallory nodded her head. “She had to do some kind of voicing for a documentary about American fast food.” At this, Suga laughed. “I guess it’s different in proportions.” He nodded and pulled the pepero from his jacket pocket. Mallory sighed and laid back, crossing her arms o
