Girl's Day- Don't Forget Me
----
Sehun and Yoonhee went back to normal. If anything, they became closer. That weekend, they spent more time with each other, joking, laughing, talking, and even flirting.
The uplifted mood was swept away as soon as Monday rolled around. A confused Kiwoo and an unhappy Inhee was waiting for them at school.
“Oh Sehun! I can’t believe you would leave me at the basketball game all by myself! Explain yourself!” Inhee demanded. Sehun took a deep breath and looked into her eyes.
“I’m sorry.” He breathed. “That’s it?!” She huffed.
“I’m really, truly, very sorry. I know I shouldn’t have left you then, but I really had to go.” He insisted.
Her expression softened a bit. She had never seen Sehun so earnest before. “Okay. Tell me why you had to go. At least you can tell me the reason, right? I deserve that much.”
“You’re right. You deserve to know.” Sehun agreed. It was going to be hard, but he had to do it, or he could never move forward with Yoonhee. “Inhee…you’ve been so kind to me for the past few years. You were someone I could always count on to cheer me on at the games. I’m really happy to have a friend like you.”
Inhee giggled. “Silly Sehun. Of course I’ll always be there for you.” She smiled shyly.
“You know I’ve always liked you as more than a friend. I think…you feel for me that way also.” But when she looked up at his face, she saw no smile. Her smile slipped away. “W-wait…you mean…you don’t like me that way?!”
Sehun slowly shook his head. “I’m sorry.” He whispered, ashamed.
“B-but we went on dates before! We spent a lot of time together…and you even asked me to be your partner for the sports banquet last year!” She stuttered in shock. “Why would you do that unless you saw me as a girl?”
“I do see you as a girl.” Sehun argued. “You mean you saw me as a girl.” Inhee scowled.
“No, Inhee, I do see you as a girl. You are a very beautiful and smart girl.” Sehun assured. Her eyes grew watery. “Then why are you dumping me?”
“Inhee…” He whispered and wiped her tears away. “We never really dated.” She threw him a sharp look.
“But that is beside the point.” Sehun weakly smiled then sighed. He had to get to the point, or they would discuss this forever. “Look, Inhee. I did like you at one point.”
“You did?” She sniffled.
“Yes, I did.” He admitted. “But feelings change. I still like you. I just…can’t see myself falling for you. Do you understand what I’m saying?” Sehun cautiously asked.
Inhee wiped her tears away. “It would have been nicer if you had told me this sooner.”
“I know.” Guilt flashed across his face. “I’m incredibly sorry. I didn’t know what I had to do until now either, but that is no excuse.”
Inhee sniffled some more.
“Will you…ever forgive me?” Sehun asked warily, wondering if he was asking too early.
“I don’t know…maybe…” Inhee sighed. “Most likely I will. I’m not the type to hold grudges, and I do care about you.”
Sehun smiled, grateful for her big heart. He put his arm around her shoulder. “Thank you, Inhee. I care for you, too.”
“Uh, these kinds of actions make girls misunderstand your motivation.” She pointed out.
Sehun quickly pulled his hand away. “Sorry. I’ll try to be careful.” “You can go now.” Inhee stated.
“Will you be okay?” Sehun asked, worried she might try to jump out the window or something.
“I’ll be fine. I’m not some love-struck kid.” Inhee waved her hand.
“Thanks, Inhee. I hope you’ll find someone who will genuinely love you.” Sehun reached out to squeeze her shoulder but thought better of it and just walked away. He glanced back, waved, and disappeared down the corridor.
Inhee bent over with a sigh. *Yeah, I hope so, too.*
A handkerchief materialized out of nowhere. Surprised, she looked up to see Chanyeol gazing down at her.
“Chanyeol…” Inhee shifted her gaze down to the blue handkerchief. She shook her head. “I’m okay. I’m done crying…for now.”
Chanyeol wordlessly took the handkerchief back. His other arm stretched out, and a can of pear soda was lying on his palm.
Inhee looked up at him, astounded. “What else do you have hiding behind your back?”
Chanyeol shrugged and held the handkerchief back out.
Inhee almost laughed. *What’s this? The biggest crush of my life just told me we aren’t meant to me, but why do I feel like smiling?* She cleared and accepted the soda. “Thanks.”
Chanyeol nodded and turned to go.
