ever since she was little, huge expectations were already being thrown to ahn seul. living behind her brother's back, she was forced by herself to the as good, even better than ahn yeol, which is not an easy thing to do considering how well the older is doing in everything. therefore, to succeed in making her family proud, seul worked extra hard on her studies to gain excellent scores each time. she works out every morning and night to get perfect scores on p.e, she took language classes to improve her skills.

the expectations were what kept seul alive, or rather, living while being dead. her life was bland. she finds out what she wants, tries to get what she wants, manipulate others to do what she wants, and in the end, getting what she wants. all done in a neat manner without any panicking, or inconviniences. whenever someone refused to help her, she would throw out praises and bribes. you should be aware of your potential is her favorite line of manipulation. a very polite girl who greets every one every morning, yet always has something in mind on how to use you today.

she became distant from her schoolmates and lost her closest friends one by one ever since middle school. sure she socialized normally, but none can ever befriend her to the point they become best of friends. seul is often found obsessed in doing well, she would go to the teachers and ask why she didn't get a perfect score. she could also be overly-confident, overly-determined, and etc. every time someone mentions how they're going to work hard to take the first rank, seul would turn their fire down, leaving them in despair. say that when you've studied fourty eight hours day and night, seven days a week. not completely true but enough to stop a new rivalry to be born. ❮ you're not in the same level as me, not now not ever ❯

⇾ THE FAMILY the ahn couple owns a big hospital in beomjo, labelled as one of the few best ones. even though yeol is the next heir of the hospital company, seul was surely to end up in one of the highest positions as well. therefore, both siblings were pushed to work hard at school so they could go to college outside the city, and come back when they learnt enough. ever since middle school, both were also assigned to do chores in the hospital, earning allowance through it.

as if nine years being in the same school isn't enough, seul had to deal with three more years of rivalry. yes, taewoo is and has been seul's rival for as long as the both could remember. always battling for first place, the two geniuses never had a chance to lay back on their studies. whenever seul meets the guy, she'd force a fake smile, which taewoo can see past easily. countless of times seul tried to manipulate, or at least decive her rival, but well they don't call him a genius for nothing. in seul's eyes, the guy has yet shown any holes she could destroy. but taewoo has his own weakness, a soft heart towards his seniors which often results to him letting his guard down. besides, no one is perfect, right? ❮ why don't you tell me your weakness, we can fix it together! ❯

of course, the two recognize each other since both played an important role in the school, also being in the same year. they never spoke or introduced each other formally until seul takes the step first. not in any intention but to join the club jinwoong founded, the story of superman and the empress starts here.

it's unusual for seul, but being in the murder club forces her to socialize more with other people (in this case, the club members). also in the club, jinwoong who is much more talkative, is who approaches seul first (in a friendly manner). seul had no choice but to play along, and eventually became close with the members of the club, exceptionally jaewon, especially jinwoong. .

around the time when news got out about taewoo not getting any punishment, seul was heavily depressed. she became quieter and distant with others, and jinwoong noticed. when jinwoong decided to approach her and ask her about what happened, seul couldn't help but to feel uncomfortable. she looked away, and jinwoong saw how dejected the girl looks. he tried comforting her, only to get yelled at by the shorter girl.

eventually, jinwoong succeeded on making seul opening up to him. she couldn't help but to feel better knowing how someone actually cares for her, and started to have feelings for him. though the empress doesn't really know what feelings are, since she had spent her life pretending to be someone she's not.

⇾ RIVALRY taewoo getting tangled in a counterfeiting scheme. it started when one of his respected senior borrowed ₩100.000 and then gave back two ₩50.000 bill. all sounded normal, but a few hours after, taewoo noticed that the two bills were fake ones. and so he decided to buy a few things in a nearby stationary store owned by an elderly couple with the fake bills he got from his senior. a day after that, the two elderly realized what was happening and news got out about it. the identity of taewoo was still unknown, but to her delight, seul passed by a worried and tired face of her rival who was writing an apology note, which he hid immediately. seul decides to find out more about it, using the help of the murder club.
