How can I insert cover images?

As a dear fanfic lover, I enjoy writing and editing pictures of my favourite artists (even though I don't share them online)

Once, one my friend told me to handle her AFF account since she was busy and told me to make her a suitable cover image for her.......

But the thing is, I had a really hard time posting it on this website. It seemed like I couldn't directly post the edit from my photo library as I had to type in the link of the image. 

I tried Pinterest and tumblr and whatnot and I finally managed to post it. 

I just want some help on how I can easily post whatever cover image I need in any story. Even being able to post a picture or a gif in a blog will be really helpful guys.

notinthemood is right :) you use 'set cover' option to add a cover photo for your story :)
IMPORTANT: the thing in here is that AFF is strict in terms of copyright so you only get to add a cover photo from a certain web image website. imgur and photobucket are the permitted photo websites in here as far as i know. i suggest you have personal photobucket account for easy upload of own pictures and imgur if you don't want to register but the thing is, if you uploaded the photo on the website, it'll be public for everyone to see :) hope this helps! ^_^

the only way you can insert cover images (or any images on here) is by using a direct url. for stories, use the 'set cover' option. for adding images inside a chapter or a blog, when you go to edit, click on the 14th button on the top row (when you hover, it should say 'image') with an abc icon (spell checker) on its left and a table icon on its right. insert your url and click okay.
