— “Fashionable gowns positioned female waistlines above the hips, accentuated the waist with a belt or girdle, and generously poured uninterrupted volumes of fabric towards the feet. These gowns, which are referred to as a gonna, gonnella, sottana, gamurra, or cotta interchangeably, could be hemmed at the ankles or floor. A wealthy woman wore at least three—often four—complete layers of clothing in public. On special occasions a woman would wear another gown atop the gamurra called a giornea, usually patterned and made of velvet or silk brocade. A woman’s exterior-most gown was the most expensive and ostentatious, as it faced the evaluating world. An outer garment alone could require eight braccia, or a little over five yards (4.5 meters) of fabric. Beneath their sumptuous gowns, women typically wore a chemise or camicia, an undershirt that pressed directly against the skin. Between the camicia and gamurra women usually wore another over-dress. An upper-class woman’s clothing was thick, voluminous, and dense.”

Panthea’s friends and loved ones often come to admire and depend on her for her optimism. She often exhibits an unshaken belief that all people are inherently good, perhaps simply misunderstood. Though this doesn’t apply as far as pirates mind you. Though she lends an incredibly resilient attitude in the face of hardship. Panthea has no interest in having power over others, which is why despite being if the royal family, she is happy to not be inline to the throne. This also applies to the everyday, as her demeaner is often meek. She doesn’t much care for domineering attitudes at all. Pan prefers a more democratic approach, and works hard to ensure that every voice and perspective is heard. A live-and-let-live attitude comes naturally to people like Pan, and she dislike being constrained by rules. She gives the benefit of the doubt too, and so long as her principles and ideas are not being challenged, she’ll support others’ right to do what they think is right.
Combing her intuitive nature with her open-mindedness allows her to see things from unconventional perspectives. Being able to connect many far-flung dots into a single theme, it’s no wonder that she has an affinity to poets and writing. When something captures Panthea’s imagination and speaks to her beliefs, she will go all in, dedicating her time, energy, thoughts and emotions to the project. Balls and festivities were always left in her charge, one of the few instances of leadership she wouldn’t apples. Her shyness keeps her from centre stage, but she is the first to lend a helping hand where it’s needed. While others focusing on the challenges of the moment may give up when the going gets tough, Panthea has the benefit of her far-reaching vision to help her through. Knowing that what she is doing is meaningful gives her a sense of purpose and even courage when it comes to accomplishing something she believes in. It’s also why, when she realized her only sound way of getting home was to follow The Captain’s orders, she never gave up.
However Pan often takes her idealism too far, setting herself up for disappointment as, again and again, evil things happen in the world. This is true on a personal level too, as Panthea may not just idealize her friends and family, but idolize them, forgetting that no one is perfect. She sometimes sees herself as selfish, but only because she wants to give so much more than she is able to. This becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, as she tries to push herself to commit to a chosen cause or person, forgetting to take care of the needs of others in her life, and especially herself. When something captures Pan’s imagination, she can neglect practical matters like day-to-day maintenance and simple pleasures. Sometimes she will take this asceticism so far as to neglect eating and drinking as she pursue her passion or cause. It’s up to those around her to help Panthea find a suitable middle ground. She is often so focused on the big picture that she forgets the forest is made of individual trees.
Pan is in tune with emotions and morality, and when the facts and data contradict her ideals, it can be a real challenge for her. Pan often takes challenges and criticisms personally, rather than as inspiration to reassess her positions. Avoiding conflict as much as possible, she will put a great deal of time and energy into trying to align her principles and the criticisms into a middle ground that satisfies everybody. She is private, reserved and self-conscious. This makes her notoriously difficult to really get to know, and her need for these qualities contributes to the guilt she often feel for not giving more of herself to those she cares about. It also leads to Panthea bottling up how she feels, which in turn results in outbursts of emotion when she can’t hold it back any longer.
BACKGROUND :
CHAPTER ONE: A PRINCESS IS BORN
After having two sons, the king of Preçia was glad to welcome his first daughter into the world. Orthaeus loved his sons, but he yearned for a daughter. So after nine long months of waiting, one evening during a particularly hot Harvestsun, his wish was finally granted. Panthea was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen, and dotted on her immediately. As did her mother, her older brothers, and the nurses that tended to her. She was a sun that shone over their country, and brought joy to the people at the announcement of her birth. When she was finally able to walk, Panthea was occasionally allowed to sit on her father’s lap when he was on the throne. The citizens that came to visit and give their grievances before the king, always brought gifts or tokens for the little princess. Whether they be flowers or necklaces. She would often chase her big brothers in the coartyard, and climb peach trees to try and see their vast kingdom better. By all accounts, her royal infancy was just as one would expect.
CHAPTER TWO: NO LONGER THE SAME
When Panthea turned eight, Queen Megaera began her education, with views prominent in their religion, believing Panthea should stay within her place in society and embody the divinest of women. She wished to groom her into the idealic princess. This meant her mother forced Panthea to spend all her time with tutors, learning ladylike activities, and obtaining an education fit for a member of the royal family. This made Panthea devastated, since she missed her brothers and hated being treated so delicately. She wasn’t allowed to climb trees anymore.
Eventually however, this sadness passed, and Pan decided that her mother was probably doing this for her own good. She convinced herself of this, because it hurt too much to think about the fact her mother might believe Shen wasn’t not a good enough daughter. Nevertheless Panthea’s naturally humble and inquisitive nature persisted, which is what made her father love and cherish her, but likewise what made her mother grow distant from Panthea. One would assume this would be devastating to a child, not having no that motherly companionship, but Pan held onto the dream of finally coming of age. Slowly her mother was focusing more time on her new little sister, and this meant Panthea would soon haven far more freedom of self then Shen had in childhood. Unfortunately the tight restraints on Panthea’s education were stricter then ever.
CHAPTER THREE: GROWING PAINS
When Panthea turned twelve, she began the next stage of her studies which would begin preparing her for her coming out ceremony at age eighteen. She was taught for longer hours, and thought it was tiresome, she enjoyed the moments at midnight when she could sneak down to a corridor near the servant’s quarters, and listen to the older maids telling tales of princes, foreign lands, and even pirates. They were epic adventures, and stories she wouldn’t possibly be allowed to hear as a princess, but she found them fascinating. Although they didn’t change her hate for pirates, As was the same for all who lived in Preçia. They were dangerous, no matter how exciting their stories were. But it was the only glimpse of the world outside the palace she could get. Even though she still snuck up a peach tree once in a while when she could get time alone, she still felt terribly lonely.
However when she was thirteen she was given her very own lady-in-waiting, a Lady Rosalina who’s affluent family hailed from Usava. Though she was a few years older, they still became the best of friends. Her brother Pythis was older now, but he would still find time to spend with his younger sisters, since the two girls were kept away from all the training and tutoring he and Celeas were given. Pythis had an understanding of his sister most of the rest of their family didn’t, since he and Panthea didn’t like to fit into the ideal of their role. He dressed less princely then his brother, and was more invested in his future as a soldier as he grew older, then a potential future heir. Regardless, they supported each other when it came to getting through their roles in life. Panthea was able to convince him to dress nicer, and he would convince her she was worth something regardless of how their mother made her feel. This was so very important to her, because the closer she go to her eighteenth year, the more nervous she became.
CHAPTER FOUR: STOLEN AWAY IN THE FLAMES
Finally her eighth year arrived, and on her birthday, her coming out ceremony took place. It was scheduled to happen at their summer palace, which was where she visited quiet often. There were festivals in the streets the week prior, and the day of, she was dressed in the finest gowns and the most beautiful gold accessories. She truly looked like the sun that shone over Preçia. The proceedings started with Panthea being paraded through the streets, before entering the palace where she would be blessed by monks and recite a series of oaths and a poem of her own creation. This was praised by those in attendance. Following this, was dances Panthea had with her father and two brothers. They gave her presents and showered her with kisses, before together presenting her to the world as a women.
Now that Panthea was old enough, she is finally able to be married, and possibly become heir to her father’s throne. Of course with her brothers it was unlikely, but she didn’t mind this, because it also meant she was free from her mother’s constraints. That night she and little Cilissa lay in her bed, talking about the ceremony and how much Cilissa looked forward to hers. They laughed and planned to stay up late, but eventually fell asleep. When Panthea awoke, it was sudden, and a foreboding feeling filled her. The candles in her room had gone out, and the smell of smoke and candle wax lingered for a moment in the silence of the night, before being overtaken by the bang of explosives in the distance.
She jumped at the sudden noise, and quickly climbed out of bed to run toward her balcony and see what was going on. On the horizon there was smoke, the light of vast fires, as the sound of war cries echoed through the streets. They were under attack. Not long after, Cilissa was awake and soon their brother Celeas was bursting through the door to find them. Spenia had crossed over the border and was on route for the palace. They needed to leave immediately. Panthea didn’t question her brother, and reached for her sister’s hand, to pull her along as she hurried after Celeas. They met with their family and a group of soldiers and attendance in the grand hall, before making their way to a corridor that would lead them away from the city and to a carriage that would take them home. Things were going smoothly, until the doors to the grand hall burst open, and a plank of wood set on fire fell from above them, barricading Panthea off from her family.
She could hear the cries of men from behind her, and felt tears begin to pour even harder from her eyes. Pythis tried to move the wood, or pull her over, but it was no use. It wasn’t till Celeas had to pull him away that Panthea realized her fate. She yelled for her family to run, and eventually they did. It was heartbreaking, but she dreaded more for what would happen when those Spenian intruders found her. When they did, she was yanked over someone’s shoulder, and carried through the flames of her summer home. She was thrown in a cage along with some other young girls around her age, and the door flung shut before the horses were instructed to head off. Taking her where, she didn’t know, but what she did know, was that it was far away from her family. It wasn’t till after months of travel, and different slave auctions, that she was finally freed from these slave traders.
CHAPTER FIVE: OWNED BY A PIRATE
She was one of the last among her lot yet to be bought, and so her traders believed it was best to make her seem more appealing since her night clothes were all scorched. So they forced her to change into a revealing outfit, either she did it on her own or they would do it for her. So she picked the former, and did as she was asked. It didn’t take her long to realize where they were when she was taken from her cage, since the stench of alcohol and the sound of laughter and music was a give away. The legendary buildings built from the wreckage of ships was merely a cherry on top. She was in the Piranha Isles, a place she only heard of in stories.
They took her to some pub, where they were cuing up slaves to be presented and bid on. It wasn’t a regular auction, but instead seemed to be done for an audience of Dwarves and Goblins. There were pirates conversing in the rest of the pub, but at the back where they were, the main onlookers were Dwarves and Goblins. Each time one of the girls were sold off, they would scream in dismay and it made Panthea more nervous. She didn’t know much about these potential buyers, but she could tell a human master would be more desirable. Eventually it was her turn, and she was brought into the small stage. The dwarves were drunk on ales, laughing and throwing their money around. The Goblins leaned toward the stage, and she could see their drool.
One jumped at her, and his long nail sliced through the thin translucent garment covering her. This caused Panthea to panic, as the bidding commenced. Prices were being called out, and she didn’t know which she dreaded more. That is, until a young and attractive man came up to the auction. He wore a long black coat, underneath a white shirt that was open and low cut, revealing his muscular chest. She was taken aback at the way he looked at her, the light of the candles shining on his cross earrings. Then she knew. He was a pirate. This caused a weird sense of excitement and fear to bubble up inside her, as he called out his own bids. He continued to raise his bid higher and higher. Naturally she would hope that a human would buy her instead of those creatures, the screams that the girls before her let out were ones a person sentenced to death would emit. She didn’t want to know their fate. But he was a pirate. She hated everything about pirates. Yet he seemed to be her only hope.

CONNECTIONS :
— parents : orthaeus & megaera dimitriou (52 & 45) / king and queen of preçia / thoughtful & compassionate | stoic & high strung / (4/5 & 3/5)
when around her father, panthea feels like a little girl again, and both of them can’t help but indulge in their love for one another. he dotes on her with hugs, gifts, and doesn’t mind turning a blind eye when he gets wind of her sneaking out of her studies. he loves all his children, but was always closest to pan. his youngest was far more caught up with her mother’s lessons, and the other two boys just weren’t as affectionate as panthea. after her capture peaches became his obsession, because they reminded him of her.
she has never hated her mother, and they both love each other, but their personalities don’t quite mesh. it became easier to be distant from one another, and both are most comfortable with this. she only ever wanted the best for her daughter, and panthea knows this. she spends more time with cilissa, but she genuinely doesn’t favour her over panthea in her heart. when she was taken, the queen weeped for days.
— siblings : celeas & pythes & cilissa dimitriou (26 & 22 & 14) / princes and princess of preçia / reserved, dedicated | brash, open-minded | soft spoken, idealistic / (4/5 & 5/5 & 4/5)
being her eldest brother and next in line for the throne, she wasn’t very close to him growing up. but they got much better acquainted when she was a teenager, and they spent more time on the same room. they share a love for the same books, and he enjoys being affectionate with her.
they are both middle children and have the most in common among the siblings, so they are the absolute closest. he has gone out of his way to spend as much time with her as possible, and they try and help encourage each other through the hard parts of their roles. he calls her his darling and brings her a peach every time he goes to see her.
she is panthea’s little angel, and ever since she was little pan has loved doting on her, like her older siblings doted on herself. cilissa is a very quiet sort of person, and panthea is the one capable of bringing out the wonderment in her. without a doubt she sees pan as a role model, and looks up to her in every way.
— friends : lady rosalina & lady elissea / ladies-in-waiting / cool-headed & nurturing | absentminded & flirtatious / (5/5 & 3/5)
she was her first lady-in-waiting, and they spend years of their adolescence just the two of them. she is a bit older, but the age different is hardly noticeable between them. they share the same values and beliefs, and rosalina wants panthea to have the respect she deserves as a princess and potential future queen. pan also knows about her brother pythes’ feelings for rosalina, and wholeheartedly supports them.
while pan doesn’t dislike her, they are far from on the same page, so panthea never grew close to her newest lady-in-waiting. she is very flirtatious and prone to getting in trouble, and panthea really dislikes the way she fawns over her older brothers. but there isn’t much she can do about it, since panthea doesn’t want to make a scene or pull rank with someone she would for the most part consider a friend.

INTERVIEW
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF PIRATES? I’M SURE YOU’VE HEARD A TALE OR TWO :
— Well of course I have! My great great great great grandfather made piracy illeagal for a reason? You pillage, and thieve. You kill without perpose...Panthea stopped for a moment, her palms going clammy and her legs beginning to tremble...Please don’t kill me...
WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE FOR MEETING OUR CAPTAIN? HE IS A BUSY MAN :
— It wasn’t exactly my choice...I would give anything to be back home. I need to know if my family are safe. One of yours decided to bring me here...She looked down and bit her lip, she wasn’t exactly in a position to argue either...I have no where else to go though...
IT’S A KNOWN SUPERSTITION THAT WOMEN ARE BAD LUCK ON SHIPS, SO WHAT MAKES YOU WORTHY TO TAG ALONG? :
— That’s a rediculous notion! I dare say we can be a lot more useful then you think!...Either way, you should discuss it with your First Mate because he’s the one who brought me. Besides there are other women here as well, I’m not the only one!
WHAT LENGTHS ARE YOU WILLING TO GO ON THIS JOURNEY? :
— I might hate pirates, but I love my family more. So if sticking through this will get me home...well I guess I’ll have to do whatever you need me to. I’d do anything to get home. She hesitated a moment before she decided to continue...But your captain must promise, that I indeed do return home.
