“Luna,  look! There’s a rainbow!”

 A ten years old Kris pointed at the rainbow. Luna was so excited; jumping until suddenly her ice-cream that she was holding slipped from her hand and fell to the ground. She started crying. Kris pleads her and went to buy another ice-cream. A strawberry ice-cream. That was her favourite. She smiled to Kris and laughed happily.

 “Thank you Kris. You are always my prince!” Luna said.

 “Indeed, you too my princess,’’ said Kris while plucking a flower and kneeled down, gave the flower to her. She received it without hesitation.

  That morning was the first time ever, she late for class.

“Luna, have a breakfast first,” her mom said. ”No, thanks. I’m already late mom,” she grabbed her mother’s hand and kissed it.

”She’s a big girl now,” Christine whispers to herself while her eyes just focused on Luna. She can’t believe that she still can see her smiles and hear her voice laughing loudly and happily. “God, please don’t take her before me”.

 Kris has been waiting at the front of her house .He stood besides his Vendetta.”What takes you so long? I’m waiting for you since 30 minutes ago. Vendetta is already tired. See?”

“Enough with your Vendetta.She’s not your girlfriend,”she pulled out her tongue and showed it to Vendetta. Vendetta just remained silent .Luna said sorry to Kris. She actually could not sleep last night because lately she is having difficulties to sleep. She thought maybe because she keeps thinking too much on her upcoming exams. Kris just nodded. He helped Luna wearing a helmet for safety precautions.

”Okay Vendetta. Let’s go! “speeding his motorbike heading to their college.

 The atmosphere of 88 Art Class suddenly changed with the loud noises of girls voice,  whispering to each other after Max came in. A tall, good looking guy and full with smiles .Same like those Korean idols type. All eyes are on him.

”Hmm…not bad. I love tall guys,”Luna softly whisper to Irene,her classmate. Irene have no idea how much Luna loves tall guys. She is not even compatible with them.

”Hello,I’m Shim Chang Min. I’m from South Korea and currently stay here in Guangdong, China because of my father’s business. You can call me Max.”Again Luna excited.

”Oh my God,he is actually from South Korea! Irene please tell me this is just a dream..”

 She’s very happy. Max greets her warmly. She makes him impressed because of her speaking in Korean ability. Well it’s quite good for a beginner like her.

”You’re cute when  you speaks Korean,” Max praises makes her face started to blush.

 “He is so hot!”

 “Who else can be hotter than me? “ Kris feels unsatisfied hearing Luna boasting about other people. He thought he is perfectly good enough in her eyes. Who else can be?

 “That guy! “, she pointed at Max. Surprisingly, Max saw her. Slowly he walks towards them. Luna seems a bit shy.

”Hey Luna, want to eat an ice-cream? “offered Max. Kris was being ignored so he ended up with making a sound as a sign of his presence there.

 ”Ehem..ehem..Oh sorry..Just clearing my throat..” then only Max greet him.

“Give us three cones of chocolate ice-cream”

“No. Make it two chocolate and one strawberry, please” Kris said to Max.

”That was her favourite” he smiles to Luna.

  When he pluck his guitar, playing a couples of songs sometimes makes Luna feel at ease. She really grateful having such a good friend like Kris. He always be by her side no matter what. Sometimes when she aware of that, she thinks maybe he is the one for her. Kris is such a nice guy. Eventhough he annoyed her often but she still love him. As a friend. Or maybe more than that.

 The beautiful scenery of Pearl River makes her enjoyed more, listening to the songs that Kris played with his guitar in that evening. It does not end there. When the night falls, it started to look more interesting. All the bridges, decorated by colourful shining neon lights, like a fantastic rainbows spanning the river. The water in the river reflects the magnificent lights in shimmering patterns. They decided to take a ride on a cruise.

 Kris surprised her with a question. “May I asked you something?” Luna said yes and nodded.

”Do you like him? “.

“Him? Him who?”

“Max”

 Hearing that makes Luna burst into laughter.

”If I said yes then what? Want to punch my face? “

 Kris said “Yeah why not.This is the only chance that I can finally punch you in the face” he laughed.

She gave him a gaze.”Just kidding!” Kris ruffled her hair.

“Stop it!” Luna straightened her hair. Kris likes to .

 That night, they spend almost two hours together without their knowing. There was  no sad moment whenever they were together. They were just perfect for each other.

 Spring festivals is just around the corner. Everybody was busy preparing for the biggest festival here in China. Luna cannot stand anymore. She has to do something. She pick up a mop and took a pile and fill it with water. Then, she added a cup of cleaning agents and pour to the water. She started to mop the floor around the house – starting from the hall until the corner of the kitchen. She then took the pile which full with the nasty grey coloured water and replace it with clean water.

 Her mother, father and other siblings went to buy some groceries and shopping for new clothes. She decided to stay because she’s not feeling well. Still, she was excited to celebrate it this New Year. Luna thought maybe she can help a little even though Christine always gets mad at her. Her mom said that she might ruins everything in the house because of her carelessness. She just doesn’t get it why her mom thinks like that. As if she ever broke a glass or causing death of their goldfish.

 Her heart beat fast. Something wrong with her. She started to sweat a lot and having difficulties to breathe. Her eyes slowly shut and discover darkness.

 “She needs a donor. Her heart seems slowly losing its function.”

Kris looks at her.”Wake up Luna,wake up.Don’t you want to eat an ice-cream with me? Or we can take a stroll at the Pearl River…singing with guitar on my hand like we usually does every weekend? You enjoyed it didn’t you? I just need you to wake up,please..”

He jumped onto his motorbike and left the hospital.

She woke up.”Kris? “

 

 

 Aunty Suzanne is there, sweeping at the front porch. She notices Luna who stands in front of the gate.”Come in.”she offers Luna with a smile.

”Come on in my dear. Long time no see. Let’s have tea”.

 After having a little conversation with Aunty Suzanne, Luna suddenly said, ”By any chance, may I take a look at Kris’s room? I just kind of miss him”.

 She walks in and her eyes cannot stop observing every single thing in that room.”Looks familiar. This room. Maybe same as mine?”

 Her eyes set on the study table. A few of papers scattered on the floor. She did not understand a thing. Those music notes is  such a burden. She hate to read them during Teacher Vanessa’s class. However, she rolls them up and hold it in her hand. Luna immersed in her enthuasisms, looking for secrets in her bestfriend room.

 A picture of her and Kris captures her attention. Looking at the face that she will never be able to see again. Those eyes. That lips. His sweet smiles.

 She opens the frame and discovers another music sheet was tape behind it.

 CAFFEINE. A few line of the lyrics stated: Because you’re like caffeine, Ican’t sleep all night long. My heart keep racing and racing again. I hate you.

That is what written on the paper. She rushes downstairs and heading towards the white piano in the hall. Gently, she opens the dusty cover of the piano. Her finger barely touches the black and white key. Somehow she feels connected with it.

 White faded shadows appears. Kris was riding his bikes. He kept thinking about Luna. Is she okay? When will she wake up? A car came from nowhere suddenly hit his motorbike. He fell. Bloods covered the busy road.

She continues playing the piano. Aunty Suzanne shocks. She hears the sound like she used to hear before.

 

“What are you doing? It’s already 1 a.m..”

“I’m trying to finish up this song” Kris said to his mother.

“For who?”

Kris smile then said “For Luna..”

 Luna cried. Now she knows that she owned his heart.
