Chapter 44 - Back in South Korea
4D: Book of Friendship3rd Person’s POV
[Seoul, South Korea…February 22, 20XX]
Erika landed the helicopter on top of Sae Young’s heliport and they headed down to their dorm for the talk. All of them were really worried what would happen now.
“We could be filed with kidnapping.”
“You could also be filed with physical assault.”
“Moreover, we could lose our scholarship because of this.”
“This is a mess.” Erika muttered with a sigh, already thinking about what would happen to her when her family found out what she had did. “A totally chaotic mess.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll take care of my mom. We’ll get out of this.”
“And if we don’t, I’ll gladly go to jail for you.” Erika said with a wink.
“Stop being cheesy at times like this, leader.” Jeril scolded, causing her to pout. “We’ll get out of this, there’s always a loophole. And to find that, we need to know the whole story.”
“Yeah, you never told us.”
“I’ve…always kept it a secret, sorry.”
“Why don’t you tell us now? So, we would know.”
“Alright. Well, it all started ever since from my great, great, great grandfather on my mom’s side of the family. His father was going to jail for a crime he didn’t made, so he fought the government using only his arguments about things. That’s how he became a lawyer.”
“And then, it’s been passed from generations to generations?” Anika nodded.
“For the past three generations, the Ramirez family always have firstborn son. But my mom became the first ‘firstborn’ daughter. So, she always tried to make the family proud.”
“Wait, I have a question.” Erika interrupted. “Your full name is Choi Anika Iniel Ramirez?”
“I don’t see the point of that in our situation, but yeah. Why do you ask?”
“That’s a great name, I love it.” Lei hit her again with subtlety.
“Continue…” Jeril said, grinning at what she had seen.
“So, mom already changed the family’s history…but it changed even more when my mom married my dad. He was a music lover, and I followed in his path. That’s when all of the family tradition had broken down.” the three girls nodded their head in understanding.
“To bring back the tradition, she wants you to be a lawyer?”
“That’s right.” Anika answered, but then took a deep breath. “But that’s not all. There’s something that the previous generation left, and only a true Ramirez can claim it.”
“So, this is all about money?”
“No, this is about a Ramirez pride.”
“Your mother thinks that when you became a lawyer, you’ll be a true Ramirez. And you can claim that thing because you’re the most suitable candidate out of everyone in the family.”
“Yeah, I have all the qualities of a true Ramirez.” Anika let out a sigh. “But I don’t want to claim any of the family heirloom, I’m fine with the way I am. Music is my treasure.”
“I’m going to quote that.”
“Now’s not the time, Ked unnie.”
“I know, this is a stupid family conflict but mom really wanted to prove herself because she was the one who had broken our family tradition. But all I wanted is her support for me.”
The girls approached Anika and gave her a pat in the back, Lei hugged her and Jeril ruffled her hair. Erika stood back and couldn’t help but relate with Anika’s situation. Damn families…
“Anika.” Erika called.
“Yes, unnie?”
“Did I mention to you that I’m a registered lawyer?” everyone’s eyes widened. “Yeah. Other than being an idol, my family also approved of being a lawyer as a qualified occupation.”
“What can’t you do?” Lei asked, being awed is visible in her voice.
“Nothing, actually.” Erika joked. “Anyways, I can help us get out of this.”
“In exchange of what?” Anika asked, already knowing that there’s a price to pay.
“In exchange, you have to promise me that you’ll continue singing no matter what happens. Same goes for you two.” she pointed Jeril and Lei. “I need an inspiration to do this, okay?”
“Oh…kay.” they all muttered with uncertainty.
“Good. Then, consider it done within this few days.”
“Wait, I’m not going to let you do all this thing by yourself.”
“You’re not. I’m making your mother come here to talk and when she does, I also want you to talk to her about what you want. Tell her that all you needed is her support, that’s all.”
“Are you sure?” Anika questioend and Erika nodded.
“All I would do is tell a piece of my mind, there’s nothing more.”
But somehow, all of them felt like there’s something more to it. They all have a bad feeling in their heart that something would go wrong, but this is the best plan they have for now.
“Alright, then. I’ll do what you say.” Erika smiled and nodded her head. “But you also have to promise you’ll be our leader until the end, cause it sounds like you’re saying goodbye.”
“Ofcourse.” Erika chuckled. “Yeah, sure.” she said, but none of the girls noticed that she isn’t exactly promising anything as she answered the question to the main vocalist.
