The Meaning of K-pop Artists’ Names: A Fact File
Description
A fact file that explores the meanings of K-pop artists’ names in their native languages.
Foreword
HOW ARE BABIES NAMED IN KOREA?
Traditionally, Korean babies would be given a name with meaning in Hanja form. (T/N: Hanja refers to Chinese characters that have been borrowed from Chinese and incorporated into the Korean language). However, some people nowadays give their children Native Korean names with meaning in the Hangul scripture (T/N: the scripture that is used in daily life). Common examples of Native Korean names are Seul-gi (Wisdom), Ha-neul (Sky), and Ah-reum (Beauty).
Through this book, I will be exploring the meanings of K-pop artists’ birth names in Hanja (or their native language).
If there is an artist you would like me to include, please feel free to request them to me in the comments.
