“I told you to wait for me inside, Minjeong” The cold fall breeze goes away the moment Minjeong is pulled inside someone’s hug

“I didn’t get your text, Jimin” Minjeong lies, she purposely wait outside in the cold because she knows Jimin will definitely do this. 

“Feel warmer now?” Jimin’s warm breath hit Minjeong’s cheek

“Emm, better now” Thanks to her sensitive cheeks, Jimin couldn’t guess whether the red hue on Minjeong’s cheeks are because of the cold air or because of her. 

“Let’s go home, shall we?”

“You should go upstairs first, Minjeong. I’m going to check our mailbox”

Going inside their shared apartment, not expecting anything, Minjeong takes off her shoes and as she turns on the light, something feel different. Or let’s say, darker? The usual lighting aren’t turning on, instead, a pathway lights up. She knows this is just another surprise from Jimin but the problem is, she couldn’t think of what the surprise is for. No special occasion to celebrate today if she remembers correctly. Okay nope, she’s definitely sure there’s nothing to celebrate. 

At the end of the path, a remote control awaits her.
With the little note that says “press me” and Minjeong did. 

And there. 

A pre-recorded Jimin appeared.

“Hi?” Jimin grins before she hides her face with a pillow, feeling embarrassed although she’s talking to a video recorder “Did my surprise work?” Jimin smiles and she takes a deep breath “You must be wondering what is this for because there’s nothing to celebrate today. But- I’m planning to turn it into one” She bites her lower lips “Remember how we first met in high school?”

“Sorry, is your forehead okay?” Jimin takes a sit on the bench right next to the girl that accidentally got hit by the ball she kicked

“Hmm? Oh, no worries. I’m fine” The girl blooms a smile

“Here, this is for you” Jimin passes a banana milk and chocolates to the latter “I’m Jimin by the way. Yu Jimin”

“Emm, I’m Minjeong. Kim Minjeong” She smiles again “You don’t have to do this by the way. I’m really fine”

“I feel bad, I should’ve been more careful” Jimin rubs her nape, bites her lower lips, feeling a bit restless. Causing a pretty girl like Minjeong having a deep hue of red on her forehead is a sin. To Jimin at least.

Minjeong chuckles looking at how Jimin is behaving.

“It’s my fault, really, Jimin. I was too engrossed chasing the butterfly I didn’t really see where am I, where I’m going and what’s coming”

“Ahhh, you like butterfly?”

“Emm, I like pretty things” 

“Would you like to go somewhere with me?”

“Hmm? Suddenly?”

“Meet me here tomorrow after school. I’ll bring you somewhere that I think you’re gonna like. Just think of it as my way of saying sorry for what happened today”

“You really came” Jimin couldn’t hide her smile when Minjeong arrives 

“Well, I decided to come or else someone will feel bad and sorry for a very long time” Minjeong takes a guess, from their conversations yesterday, she thinks Jimin is that kind of person. Who would keep on saying sorry till she feels it’s enough. Not that Minjeong is sure when enough is enough, but that definitely isn’t going to happen if she didn’t come today. 

“So, where are we going?”

“Not that far. We’re going up”

“Up? Where?”

“Are you sure this is really okay, Jimin?” Minjeong looks to her left and right “Aren’t we doing something illegal right now?” 

Jimin couldn’t held in her laughter

“What makes you think we’re doing something illegal?”

“The way you’re cautious on our way here, as if you don’t want other people in the school to know where we’re going” 

“You’re right about that”

“Which one?”

“Not the illegal one of course” Jimin teases “This place isn’t for everyone to see” She winks as she slowly turn the door knob towards the rooftops 

Once Minjeong steps onto the rooftops, she’s at lost of words. Couldn’t believe such place existed at their school. 

“It’s nice isn’t it?” Jimin tries to read Minjeong’s face. The latter hasn’t said anything ever since they arrived there.

“What do you mean by nice???” Minjeong cups her cheeks “Would heaven on earth a bit exaggerating?” Minjeong is over the moon to be honest. She rubs her eyes a few times making sure she’s not dreaming nor hallucinating. To be surrounded with flowers of different colors, variety of scents, what a good place to release her stress. Too many things she need to catch up as a new transfer student here which is a bit overwhelming

“Kinda?” Jimin chuckles, she’s relieved that Minjeong is liking that place

“How did you know about this place?”

“Because I made it” 

“Huh?” Minjeong looks even more surprise now “You- you made this place?”

“Me and Mr. Han did it. He’s the school gardener” Jimin looks proud, it’s the first time she brings someone up here “Come, I’ve another surprise for you” She walks into a mid-size glass house at the middle of the roof 

“Butterflies!” Minjeong’s eyes lit up 

“Do you like it?”

“Emm” Minjeong nods, like a kid she is, and she walks deeper inside exploring every nooks and crannies, looking for butterflies in which some might be hiding 

“You can come here anytime you want” 

“Really??” Minjeong turns around to face Jimin 

“Emm, just come to my class, 3A, I’ll bring you here and if I’m busy, I’ll just pass you the key. My class is one floor above you. You’re in 2A right?”

“How did you know?”

“Words spread fast especially when someone as pretty and cute as you transferred here”

“Yow, Jimin! Here!” Yeji shouts to Jimin at the cafeteria 

“Bet you 50 bucks she’s not eating with us today” Ryujin says while peeling the banana

“Huh?”

“You didn’t notice?”

“Notice what?”

“It’s been a week since she’s eyeing that new girl in my class during recess time”

“Ohh, Minjeong?”

“You know her too?”

“Yeah, Jimin told me about her. Think it started during our football practice session”

“Kim Minjeong! Wait up!” Jimin shouts manage to pull Minjeong to a stop 

“Why aren’t you eating with your friends at the cafeteria? Wanna join us instead? Ryujin is there too” Jimin points towards the corner where Yeji and Ryujin are sitting 

“Uh, no thank you. I’m good on my own” Minjeong bows a bit before she starts to walk away

“Can I join you instead?” Jimin catches up again

“You won’t accept no as an answer, won’t you?”

Jimin nods with a grin

“Wanna have your lunch at the rooftops?” She proposes, knowing Minjeong won’t say no as her answer too

“So, why didn’t you come by my class at all this week?” Jimin asks before she takes a bite of the hotdog 

“What for?” 

“This” Jimin shows the key she used to enter the rooftops “Thought that you like this place”

“Emm, I do. I like this place. It’s just-” Minjeong stutter a little “Emm…”

“You’re shy, aren’t you? A whole introvert, I’m guessing?”

“Emm…” Minjeong nods

“Wanna have lunch with me here everyday instead? I can sit far away there if you wanted me too” Jimin teases which causes Minjeong to let out her tiny laughter 

“That- that won’t be a bad idea”

“Looking for Minjeong?” Ryujin comes out from behind which surprise Jimin a little

“Yeap, she’s not in class today?”

“Mrs. Yoon said she’s not feeling well”

“Ahh, okay. Thanks Ryujin!”

Minjeong is still on her bed when her dad knocks on the door

“Minjeong, your friend is here to visit you. I’m letting her in, alright?” And the door slowly opens.

Minjeong opens her eyes little by little and when she opens it wide, Jimin is standing in front of her.

Not used to people see her like that, Minjeong quickly pulls herself to a sit.

“What are you doing here, Jimin?” 

“Ryujin told me you aren’t feeling well. Did you get rained yesterday?”

“Emm” Minjeong nods while coughing 

“I was waiting for you at the lobby yesterday, thought of walking you home since I’ve an umbrella with me”

“I left immediately after the bell rang, got things to do at home”

“Have you eaten? Got your medicine as well?”

“Emm, I have. What about you?”

“I did too” Jimin smiles 

“What’s that you’re hiding behind you?”

“Ohh, this. I almost forgot about it” Jimin pulls her hand from her back showing a tiny air-filled aquarium with a few butterflies in it to Minjeong “Thought that this will help you feel better” 

She gives it to Minjeong whom face is suddenly lit up with a smile. Minjeong takes the aquarium and walks towards her study table and place the aquarium on it.

“You aren’t worried that they might get away?”

“I’m planning to set them free anyway. With you. Today”

“Too many hatched at the same time?”

“Emm” Jimin nods “Pretty aren’t they?” She refers to the butterfly but her eyes are glued at Minjeong. Not that the latter notices it. 

“They are indeed. Thanks Jimin” 

Minjeong blooms a smile to Jimin, a smile that makes her heart beats like crazy

“I still can’t believe it that butterflies got us together. And I’m still sorry for accidentally hit you with the ball years ago, although I’m actually glad that I did” Jimin chuckles and Minjeong does too “Hmm… When does this feeling started” Jimin keeps her silence for a while, thinking “Right, that day when I came back from a one-long week of football tournament. It started there. Not seeing you for a week turned me into a mess”

“Minjeong? Hello? Done daydreaming?” Ryujin waves in front of the latter’s face to get her attention 

“Huh? What’s up Ryujin?”

“Your homework. Mrs. Song wants it by today”

“Oh, wait” Minjeong opens her bag and takes out the practice book “Here” She passes it to Ryujin who’s collecting everyone’s 

“It has only been a week, she’s coming back tomorrow anyway” 

“Who?”

“Jimin. Who else would it be” 

“Oh. Emm, I know”

“You missed her, don’t you?”

“Who?”

“Yu Jimin. Your Jimin” 

“I said nothing”

“Your face says everything”

“Did you guys won?”

“We did. But I couldn’t score a goal, got benched at half
