CH 4
Never Too LateHyejin didn't know what to do. Her hands shake as she stares at her phone. There's no way he found her right? She didn't have the money to move again. Ahn was finally happy here. He didn't fight her when it came time to leave. In fact he liked when she left for work. Did she call off for a bit? Would they understand if she told them? Would anyone understand if she told them? No. They would probably give the same answers her family did when she told them.
"Dear? Are you alright? You're shaking. What's wrong?"
Kihyun shouts from the next room, "What's wrong Mother?"
"Hyejin is acting weird I think something's wrong with her phone."
Hyejin tried to reassure Kihyun that nothing is wrong. He starts teasing her reminding her about how she use to be with technology. Kihyun doesn't get the messages she was trying to send non-verbally. He snatches her phone abusing his inches over her. Hyejin notices the way he tenses up and her blood freezes. He read them. He knows it all now.
"Mom can you go keep an eye on Ahn real quick? I need to talk with Hyejin."
Hyejin reaches out to grab at Kihyun's mother. She didn't want to be alone with him. The last time she was alone with a man... A single man... Tears threatened to fall.
"Why is he sending you these messages? ...Mom said he dumped you."
Hyejin shakes her head keeping her eyes on her feet.
"What do you mean no? He didn't dump you? ...are you guys still together?"
Hyejin shakes her head frantically.
"...Ji please look at me. I can't understand head shakes."
Hyejin reluctantly looks up, "I dumped him."
"You did? ...why?"
Hyejin tried to take her phone back. Kihyun shakes his head holding the phone hostage until she explains. He soon cones to regret it hearing about the things said to her and done to her. He forces her into a hug, holding her tight. His eyes filling with tears as he hears her quietly sob into his chest. Kihyun doesn't let go until she pushes against his chest.
"...I won't tell Mom. I will get you a new phone. Please tell me if he messages you."
Hyejin stares into his face making him a bit flustered.
"Ji? A-are you okay?"
"...I shouldn't have left."
Kihyun now stares at her. He couldn't bring himself to look away. Not even as she left the room. His eyes stayed glued to her.
"Ahn, Mommy has to go to work soon. Can you be nice to Miss Yoo?"
Ahn just blabbers on in his baby talk.
"I love you too."
Hyejin kisses Ahn's cheek then hugs Kihyun's mother. She looks back at Kihyun who still stands in the doorway watching her. She gives a small smile and wave. Kihyun manages a smile. Hyejin heads for the door right after. The room is quite still until Hyejin is fully gone.
"...so you two close now?"
Kihyun turns red. "Mom!"
"Well, It's hard to ignore my son holding a woman in my home."
"No. ...I mean... We are but..." Kihyun sighs, "Mom please don't bother her about this. It's just a thing."
"I can't promise anything I might want to see that again."
"Mother!"
