Disclaimers
I feel this may be obvious due to the premise but I can't promise a happy ending for your character. I have a preference for bittersweet rather than outright tragedy though.
Iβm going to write this in the most respectful way I can. You may notice some similarities to certain real people or cases. And I just want to be very clear Iβm not trying to defame anyone, but I want the story to feel real and grounded so I might use ages/job roles of real people as inspiration for characters to go on to do horrible things and Iβm not in any way claiming that those people did these things.
The "Sponsor"Β
Β I originally hadnβt described anything about him due to wanting him to be somewhat of a mysterious figure but I realised that might make it a bit hard to create characters for the club. So Iβm going to keep it vague but this might help:
His name is Kim Yejun,
Heβs in his late 30βs/early 40βs Heβs a son of a chaebol family. Heβs pretty private and not a well-known public figure.
Heβs charismatic and manipulative as well as conventionally attractive.
Heβs not going to be getting a FC. He gets in touch with real media entertainment around 6 months after their debut.
Premise
Mystery, Epolistry novel,
character drama/study. Focus on interpersonal relationships with some potentially supernatural elements.
This story is going to be heavy, with psychological thriller elements. Dealing with the βdark side of kpopβ I strongly dislike how this has often been covered in the mainstream media (often through a xenophobic lens) but regardless there are many problems in the industry.
That being said, it won't be just torture/sadness p*rn. There will be hope within it +Β happy scenes in general.
This story will be heavily critical of minors debuting but that doesnβt Β mean Iβm criticising you. Iβm a hypocrite, my ult group is Billlie which debuted minors. I want to warn you that if you do feel defensive about it, this may not be the story for you.
(Though I want to mention Iβve seen a very performative attitude towards the idea of minors not debuting which is very disappointing, seeing people justifying hating minors by saying they shouldnβt debut??I donβt condone this)
I want to write about how a company puts on a front of treating their idols well when not really doing so. As well as the dangers of young idols, along with how the close personal relationship between idols and their company CEOs can be problematic and unhealthy. Monetising this everyday relatable teen girl aesthetic while they rob those teenage years from them. As well as showing how things are perceived by fans vs the reality.Β
Password: a fandom name suggestion. (If you don't have one just put n/a)Β
The Girl
Stage nameΒ is needed for story purposes, and their real names aren't public. This can either be an obvious stage name, or simply a different name from their own birth one. I'm also happy to pick the stage name, if you would prefer that.Β
Faceclaim Please avoid race-bending. Due to the sensitive topics in this story, Iβve decided Iβd rather the fcs be , even though the characters are younger than that. Please do make sure to pick a fc, that can pass for the character's age over the 3 years of their activity. In general, Iβd recommend using 2000 - 2005 liners.
For this story it would be best if they fit the Korean beauty standards including foreign members- I donβt mean they canβt have unique features (in fact I would love them too) but essentially if you feel like a bunch of netizens will start ragging on them for their looks. (Including if they think they look βplasticβ) probably not right for this story. Of course, I am very against the ridiculous expectations and rigid beauty standard, but part of the point of this story is to have a cast that does fit them, that seems to fit so many of the perfect idol criteria
I also ideally would like photos of the fcs with brown or black hair, and decent photos available, as I'm playing around with coding and aesthetics for this. But as long as theyβre are good quality photos they donβt need to be idols. (Actors or models are also fine)
Ages listed on the plotlines are just recommendations not rules except for the club. However, all the characters must be between 13 - 18 at debut. As the story is meant to be about going through the industry at such a young age.Β
Backstory since the cast will be quite young and a lot of the story will be about the hardship and trauma they experience as idols and trainees, my preference would be for the backstories of the majority of the cast not to be too heavy. They can have baggage, as most people do. But considering the heavy topics that will be addressed in the story I just donβt want it to feel overwhelming. In general more focused on the personality than backstory. If youβre unsure if an idea you have is too much for the story feel free to dm me, I donβt want to prevent ideas from flowing, but I guess I would at least want half of the cast to have kind of normal/not too heavy backgrounds. But if you do want to give a bit more of a darker past Iβd recommend choosing one of the less heavy plotlines.
Β Personality, Trivia, etc
are very important for this story. Iβm planning for this to be a bit of a character study very focused on their emotional struggles. Specifics on what is needed for these are on the app.
If you have any ideas of things youβd like to happen during the story and how they might affect your girl Iβd love to read about that!
I just need to feel I know her and understand her. Her mind, and how others perceive her.Β
Romance & Relationships Β
Iβd like to be able to understand their relationship with their family well, how they feel about them being in the idol life and how much they are keeping an eye on them (if any). It would also be useful to know how theyβd feel if they went missing one dayβ¦. The connections your character has is important as part of the story will be set after they go missing. Meaning I will be writing about, and potentially from the pov of people that knew them. And generally how they perceived them.
I personally donβt feel comfortable writing real people as love interests butΒ I am a er for romance though, so feel free to make an oc thatβs staff, a trainee, or even a friend outside the idol industry. Or you can use any member of their brother group Digi boys as their love interest. If you choose to give your character a romantic relationship with an inappropriate , or power imbalance it will be treated as morally wrong.
The Idol Please give me a clear idea of their strengths and weaknesses as an idol. (Variety, stage presence etc) due to the limited time active and how popular they were, I donβt want the members to be super scandalous or controversial, but one or two scandals are fine.
They can have a different public persona to who they are in their private lives, or be the same. Just keep in mind that the members will be vlogging, blogging, and live streaming. At least having the image of authenticity. (Whether itβs true or not for your character, is up to you.)
Positions I went with what's more common in K-pop nowadays which is having βlinesβ rather than main/leads positions. I hope this isnβt too confusing but the general idea is that the positions listed go from biggest focus/skill to more minor ones. This is more so how the company markets them and what skills are utilised in releases and promotions. So the talent twin doesnβt have to perfectly fit the skills listed. And I wasnβt sure if I wanted the Joker to just have a vocal position, so that one, in particular, is pretty flexible.
Talent Twin Iβd rather have only one talent twin, but if you canβt find just one that fits what you have in mind you can use two at most. If you want to mention a variety twin additionally that's fine. And though I still want to see Talent Twins as a base you can use the description in the app to change the overall skill level.Β
Timeline
Real Media Entertainment was founded in late 2017 by the Kang's. They put a deposit down for a decent-sized building for training and were quick to contact industry connections with job offers.
Around early 2018, Real Media started actively looking for trainees. They recruited some from agencies they had worked for. But also through social media, off the street, and dance/vocal competitions.
They put out a notice for public auditions, despite being a new company they were viewed as legitimate due to the reputation they had in the industry.
Due to limited funds and a clear vision, they were picky about picking trainees but knew that they needed βbackupsβ. The majority of the time they had around 14 trainees, a maximum of 18.
Real Media only rented out dorms for trainees who lived far from Seoul, otherwise, they stayed living with their parents/legal guardians.
Around late September 2019 the lineup for Reel Girls was pretty much finalised (with some potential last-minute swap-outs). This is also when they started recruiting male trainees.
Reel Girl's Debut in March 2020, their first song did well for a small label but nothing groundbreaking but they were developing a solid fanbase. Β Their third comeback, "Attention" became a massive hit, and they just kept on getting more popular.
Digi Boys debut in April 2021.
Reel Girl's social media went dark around late October 2022.
I hope this made sense, feel free to ask if you have any questions or things that need to be clarified :)Β
