L’hiver (Winter)
A Twisted Tale of Bloodlines II
The scenery was blindingly white, but she was not fazed by the dreariness of the landscape. Soojung had found herself in a place where winter ruled the lands and where life and time seemed to still. The snow was falling in graceful streaks, coating and staining the satin gown which she had donned for the crowning ceremony of her only living sister.
Soojung had survived a war she had fought so hard and almost died in. She had witnessed disturbing scenes of fire, smoke, blood, and flesh. She had witnessed the ashes spreading in the horizon as vampires were picked off like flowers by the werewolves. And Soojung had recalled standing in the midst of that bloody battlefield where red stained the snow and armors, swords, bullets, and elements clashed.
She remembered losing herself in the situation, her eyes changing from the bright crimson glow to the deadly and alluring sapphire. She had unleashed her wrath that day and had most of the battle ground frozen. She remembered standing in shock, her golden tresses drifting in the cold winter wind. Some of her comrades had stopped fighting, looking at her in surprise.
A large wolf had charged at her. It’s fur as white as snow. It was a snow werewolf and it had set itself to eliminate her, but Soojung was a quick fighter and a very cunning one, too. Flames erupted from her hand as she dodged the large armored canine-like monster. The flames clashed against steel as her hand pushed through armor, penetrating it until it met fur. But Soojung had pressed on, her hand pushing through layers of muscle and cavities, punching a gaping hole through the beast’s body.
Soojung remembered her other comrades telling her that she had two affinities – a rare trait – even among the Royal vampire families directly descended from Kira.
And as Soojung treaded this winter wonderland within another realm, she felt a presence watching her. It was an unfamiliar presence, something she couldn’t identify.
“Who’s there?” Soojung asked, turning abruptly, finding no one in her presence but frozen trees and shrubbery. Her crimson eyes narrowed as they scanned the surroundings. Her hands curled into fists as she remained still, gauging the place and the possibilities of an attack coming at her. “Show yourself.” Soojung called once more, but only the wind answered her.
“Child…” The wind howled, making Soojung’s eyes sharpen, her irises turning into the color of the ocean.
“What do you want from me? Where are my sisters?” Soojung demanded into the restless wind.
A blast of cold air hit Soojung, making her raise her hands to shield the onslaught of snow that it brought along with it. Her sapphire eyes glowed, returning the harsh gale, willing the snow to head to the opposite direction. The wind whirled in protest, resisting her power as she resorted to using the other element that she had come accustomed to.
Flames erupted from her fist as she summoned fire, her second affinity. The wind spoke to her once more, “So, you have managed to discover what had set you apart from your sisters…”
Soojung frowned at the remark. She did not seem to understand what the wind was telling her. Snow began to float in mid-air before it swirled in a spiral dance as Soojung willed her flames to calm down and her ice to falter and follow along to the entrancing dance summoned by a more p
