Suffocating

After hearing a shout from her boss, she smiled slightly and pulled off her headphone. She felt her ears a bit sore because she had that headphone on her ears for almost three hours of recording, but she never complained. She took a water bottle from the nearest table and drank the water. She was all thirsty, she talked to much. Well, she needed to talk much in recording.

“You’ve done well!” she felt a pat on her shoulder when she went outside the recording room. She turned around and saw her boss, Kim Jinwoo smiled brightly at her. Jinwoo looked so as happy as always. She liked the way Jinwoo always praised all his employees. He never got angry whenever the others made mistake. He believed that those mistakes exist to make them better, that’s why he always told the others to practice. He was that patient and honest, and talented, of course. He could voice almost everyone’s voices, and all people in this office. He was so easy to get along, and that’s when he listened to people carefully, and silently he tried to make himself sounded the same. Jinwoo could do it anytime he met people. He thought everyone’s voice was unique, and he couldn’t help but copy it.

She was very grateful to have a senior like Jinwoo. He taught her many things in these past five years. “Thank you, sunbae.” She was used to call him sunbae just because he was her senior in high school. They didn’t know each other so well at that time, but now they were good friends. Jinwoo was a senior, a friend and a brother for her. Sometimes Jinwoo listened her well better than her own brother. But, well, we could talk about that little brother later.

Jinwoo nodded. “I know you probably think about today’s recording, why I put you in many recording sessions.” He started to talk as they came inside a room next to recording room she left earlier. From this room, we could see people in the next room clearly because there was a big glass wall that was visible from both sides. They took a seat on a sofa while looking at the glass wall. The next room was empty, but someone would enter it soon. “Well.” He sighed. “You know we got so many programs this month.”

“I know.” She nodded as she remembered programs they got this month. They had to dub some cartoons and anime, advertisement, foreign movies and dramas. They all came this month, and she and the others had no choice except get ready for many recording sessions like today. Really, she never complaint about the jobs, but sometimes she had difficulties to get into the characters. Well, she had to make the characters alive as she voiced them. It meant she had to immerse herself into the characters. Since there were so many recording sessions she got in a day, she forgot what kind of voice she had to sound to voice this or that character. Sometimes, she got confused by herself. As a dubber who always got the lead character to voice, she couldn’t be like this forever. Well, she still hadn’t find the way. Fortunately, she barely made mistakes in the recording.

“I can’t say I’m not happy to get many programs,” Jinwoo laughed awkwardly,”it’s a good thing for our company. But, to see you guys tired like this, I told to myself that I shouldn’t be that happy.”

She laughed at that honest thought. “That’s okay, sunbae. It’s always okay with us. We all love this job, don’t we? There’s no reason to complain.”

“You’re right.” He nodded. He turned around to stare at her. “Do you think our company should hire some new dubbers? I mean, that will be good if many other people can join us, so we won’t overwork our dubbers like this.”

Before she could answer him, her eyes caught the opened door in the next room. Someone had just walked in the room. Jinwoo took a deep breath.

“I always lean on you and Seungyoon for all programs we have.” Jinwoo started to talk again. “You two have those great voices. I always choose you two because I know you guys are good in every program.”

She smiled slightly as her eyes still glued to the guy in the next room. The guy called Seungyoon looked like he didn’t realize both her and Jinwoo looking at him from the other room. He was standing in front of a mic and seriously reading his script. She always thought Seungyoon was such a weirdo. He barely talked to other dubbers and people in the office. He always stared at people like people had made dreadful mistakes to him. That cold and intimidating stare, no one in this office could stand it. But, he was still Jinwoo’s favourite, though.

“No need to worry, sunbae. I always love every program I need to dub. It’s okay.” She told Jinwoo, turning her head to stare at her boss. Jinwoo’s face looked a bit worried. “I’ve told you many times, I won’t make you disappointed.”

Jinwoo couldn’t help but smile widely. “Aigo, you always make me smile again!” He messed up her hair happily. She got used to this everytime Jinwoo felt so happy. If he didn’t do this, he would talk so much in different voices. That was annoying sometimes. “I don’t remember you say that to me, though.” He took his hand from her head immediately as he remembered the fact.

She fixed her hair and pouted. “I did say it many times.”

“Oh, I really forgot about it, then.” He laughed. “What are you going to do now? You have another recording after Seungyoon finishes his.” He pointed at the glass wall.

Before she could answer him, her phone vibrated. She smiled as she saw the name that appear in the screen.

Meet me outside your office.

She wondered why Song Minho wanted to meet her outside her office. Jinwoo looked a bit confused to see her ignoring him. She then looked up at her boss.

“I’ll be back soon, Sunbae.” She giggled and rose from her seat. She headed to the door.

“Where are you going?” Jinwoo asked, puzzled.

“In front of the office. I’ll be right back.” She said before closed the door. At that time, she swore she saw Seungyoon glared at her coldly. Oh really, that guy can’t always get angry at everyone without reasons, she thought.

As soon as she was outside her office building, she saw a tall guy with black sweater and baseball cap already standing near a big tree in front of the office. There were no many lights at that time, but she was sure it was Minho who was waiting for her. She ran to him and the guy smiled at her.

“What’s happening?” those were the words she said to him. Minho laughed at those words.

“You haven’t had your dinner, that’s what’s happening.” He laughed with that deep voice of his. He immidiately gave her a plastic bag. “Here, I bought you meals, and some drinks. Make sure you have dinner soon. I know you got many programs this month, but it doesn’t mean you have to miss your dinner. You know it, right?”

She laughed as she was still amazed with the meals and drinks he bought her suddenly. “I know it, Mom.” She said with a little girl voice. Minho looked like he hold his laughter.

“You know, you can fool people around with different voices everytime.” He commented.

“I know, I know.” She cut his words, smiling. “Taehyun always asks me to do that.” She said with dry voice.

“Oh, really?” Minho looked a bit surprised. “For what?”

“For... aish, why are we talking about Taehyun?” she said frustratingly. Sometimes thinking about that person gave her headache. And they met everyday, how could she escape from bad headache every single day?

“Hey, you’re the one who started to bring him up.” Minho laughed. He then cleared his throat. “Now go inside and eat. I’ll call you later, okay?”

She smiled, but felt a bit sad that Minho had to go that fast. “Okay.”

“You’ve done a good job today. Keep that good work.” Minho patted her shoulder. She smiled brightly, Minho always said those words to her everyday. “I’m leaving.”

“Be careful on your way home.” She said to him.

He nodded and left. Some times he turned around only to wave at her. She laughed at his action. Minho always brightened up her day in these past eight months since he came back to her life. She wanted to know if he would be still with her until the end or not.

She then remembered that she had another recording session. She hurriedly rushed inside the office.

She opened a door slowly. The room was so dark, no sunlights came since the windows were still closed. Well, it was 10 in the morning. She stepped in the room silently, she didn’t want to make any noise. Even the room was so dark, she could see papers everywhere, mostly in the floor. From a small light from the desk, she could tell the printer was still on. The laptop’s screen was all black but she knew it hadn’t been off all night long.

Seriously.

She turned around and took a look at the bed. Someone was just sleeping soundly with the white thick blanket, looking exactly like a big silkworm. Well, this silkworm had to get up right now.

“Yah Nam Taehyun! Get up!” she walked to the bed and shook the body of the person who was sleeping peacefully. For some more seconds, the person called Nam Taehyun just rolled in his bed without even care about her existence. She was shocked about his action, she decided to shake his body even more. “Yah! Get up!” she took his blanket. He groaned.

“Aish...” That was the first reaction she got. “Why are you so noisy in the morning?” he hissed.

“Get up quickly!” she showed no mercy. Oh well, she needed to do this if she wanted him to wake up.

“I just slept at 7 am, why don’t you let me some more sleep?” Taehyun said with closed eyes.

“Because you have many things to do. GET UP!”

“Aish, seriously!” he hide his face with pillow.

“Come on, sleepyhead. Mom is looking for you.” She told him. After that, Taehyun got frozen. He slowly got up from his bed, and slowly made his way to the bathroom. She smiled in victory. Taehyun couldn’t ignore her if she had mentioned about their mom.

“Where is mom?” Taehyun asked her when he came to the dinning table. The breakfast was ready some hours ago, and she just waited Taehyun to get up to have her breakfast. Her mom had told her to wake Taehyun up after that she could have the breakfast together with him. Well, Taehyun was always the first for their mom because he was the youngest in the family. But, he has all grown up now. Mom needs to stop to treat him like a little boy, she thought.

“Mom went to the restaurant.” She answered him as she started to eat her breakfast. Yes, their mom owned a restaurant since four years ago. Mom always went to the restaurant every morning. They often didn’t have breakfast together like this. But, today it was just because of her brother’s fault.

Taehyun pulled a chair opposite hers. “And why did you say mom is looking for me?” he knitted his eyebrows together.

“Mom really looked for you this morning.” She gritted her teeth. Taehyun sounded that he didn’t believe her words.

“So, mom was already in the restaurant and now you’re saying mom is still looking for me?” Taehyun sounded unhappy. Well, he was never happy if his sleep was interupted.

“That’s the only way to make you awake, you know.” She replied simply.

“You’re so brilliant.” He commented coldly.

Taehyun is really annoying most of times. That was why she always got headache. She cleared . “Mom told me you have to meet your boss at the company today.” She tried to sound so calm. “Is that right?”

“Yes.” Taehyun replied simply without looking at her. He was now too busy with his breakfast. “So?”

“I woke you up, isn’t it good? So, you won’t be late to go there.” She said, and smiled.

“Boss said I need to meet him at 12 in the afternoon.” Taehyun replied. Her face brightened up, she was all confident thingking that he liked her idea of waking him up, but then he said,”but he also said I can come whenever I want.”

Her face dropped. “Is that so?”

Taehyun looked up at her. “Yes.”

She didn’t even expect his boss said such thing. Taehyun was one of writers who was very respected because of his works. She snorted and cleared . “Well, I just reminded you, as mom wished me to do it.” She said honestly.

Taehyun’s expression softened after hearing those words. Bringing about their mom everytime really could control his emotion. Eventhough Taehyun was cold sometimes, he really loved their mother. He always did whatever mom asked him to do. He sighed. “You should know I just slept three hours last week. I deserve more sleep, as my boss told me. I’ve been working too hard on this project.” He told her and sighed many times.

Sometimes it hurt her to see her brother like this. He worked too hard and had lack of sleep. “You have finished it, right?” she asked carefully.

“Yes.”

“That’s good.” She commented simply. No wonder Taehyun always did a good job even though he was under the pressure of his boss.

“But, I’m still getting that headache.” He told her.

She blinked, didn’t expect this confession from her brother. “Why?”

Taehyun’s eyes looked that dark. “You know. That matter.” He said, without explaining more. Noticing his tone, she was really sure it was that matter.

She really knew what he was talking about. She really knew. “Which women?” she asked him casually.

“They are so many. I can’t even remember their names.” Taehyun let out a heavy sigh. “They keep calling me after I attended a premiere of my new webtoon in a high school.”

Poor Taehyun and his fangirls. As a famous webtoon productive author, Taehyun always faced things like this. Fangirls, hardcore fans of his. They were made up of mostly high school girls and girls above his age. Taehyun was 24 this year, and she was a year older than him. Those fans of his liked to give him calls. They confessed that they liked him and wanted to have that kind of relationship with him. She tried to hold her laugh to see Taehyun confused. He wasn’t this popular back then, and he never faced such thing like this.

“I’ve told you many times, Taehyunnie, get yourself a girlfriend.” She giggled.

Taehyun snorted. “It’s not that easy, noona.”

“I bet they will stop giving you calls you after you declare that you already have a girlfriend.” She told him, still laughing. “Ah, they probably will really stop to do it if you get married! It’s a good idea, don’t you think?” She laughed evilly.

Taehyun looked surprised and a bit annoyed. He then ate his meals again. “It feels like you’re okay talking about get married while yourself broke up three days before your wedding. It doesn’t hurt anymore, I guess?”

She was really surprised to hear those words from her brother. Taehyun never brought this topic in months. Well, he was being that good brother that he never wanted to hurt her feelings. But, why did he bring it up now? She sighed.

“How’s Seunghoon hyung? Are you still in contact with him?”

She was frozen to hear that name escaping Taehyun’s mouth. Suddenly, she felt it so hard to breathe normally. She, out of the blue, rose from the chair.

“I-I will go with you, to see your boss. Then I will go straight to my office.”

Taehyun nodded and sadly looked at her unfinished breakfast. She then went to her room and got herself ready.

“Noona, you’re daebak!” Taehyun laughed happily as he got his phone back from her. She just smirked. She had picked up a call from Taehyun’s fangirl who kept calling every day in two weeks. She had faked a voice like a grandmother and pretended that that girl got a wrong number. She then hung the phone immediately before that fangirl could speak more. Taehyun looked so happy, she had solved his problem of the day.

“It’s enough for this week, little brother. I’ve done it for uncounted times.” She replied and took a sip of her juice. They had met Taehyun’s boss an hour before, and now they were in the cafeteria, ordering some drinks. They had made a plan to pick up the calls, though. And she thought they were successful as always.

“No, noona! What if they come back again and keep calling?” Taehyun looked restless than ever. “Don’t you think they will get curious and decide to call me more often?”

She blinked and smiled. “You’re too worried, dongsaeng. I don’t think they will call you again.”

“But, what if they will?”

Sometimes he is this worried.

“That means you have to change your phone number immediately.” She answered simply. “And what about the calls I’ve picked up days ago? Do they still call you again?”

Taehyun blinked. “I don’t really remember the numbers and people, but I think those who called me these days aren’t the same with girls who called me before.”

“That means our tricks work, right?”

“Absolutely.” Taehyun smiled grew wider and they hi-fived. “You need to help me again in the future, noona.” He added happily.

“Buy me Epik High’s new album, then.”

“I can also buy you Nell’s albums if you want me to.”

“That’ll be great, little brother!”

After that agreement, she decided to go to her office and Taehyun went somewhere to meet his assistant. Her office wasn’t that far with Taehyun’s. It just needed 4 minutes walking. She had recording sessions in the afternoon for today. She had spent her time yesterday with many recording sessions. Today Jinwoo told her to come at 12 in the afternoon. Other sessions were taken care by other dubbers. When she was about to reach the office, she saw Kang Seungyoon entering the office building. Oh, it seemed like Jinwoo told Seungyoon to come at 12, too.

“You come.” Jinwoo smiled brightly as she arrived in the studio. Jinwoo was busy reviewing all the dialogues that have been recorded. Kim Hanbin was with him, helping editing the sound.

“The recording has finished, sunbae?” she asked. She looked around to see if there was an empty seat, but the only seat was already seated by Seungyoon who was busy listening to music in his phone without even greeted her nor talked. Well, she got used to it.

“Yeah. It’s time for reviewing.” Jinwoo told her. “It’ll be finished in 5 minutes. I don’t think there are dialogues that need to be re-recorded.”

“That’s good.” She smiled at him before she talked to Hanbin. “What about the next session?”

“In an hour. Hanbyul is preparing all the scripts for you.” Hanbin smiled. “We will read the scripts and practice, and watch the episode once again,” he added and she nodded. Yeah, they have done watching the episode of a dorama that they needed to dub last night. She had enough attention to the character she had to dub, an annoyying lady who was cocky and lazy. She was sure she would do it well today with re-recording. When she was about to ask Hanbin something, the guy added, ”and then Seungyoon will have his session first.”

She blinked many times. Seungyoon will do it first? She instantly glanced at Seungyoon who ignored her all the time. “Why does Seungyoon ssi need to have his session first?” she carefully asked in small tone, so Seungyoon wouldn’t hear him. But, would he hear her? He totally ignored her, it’s okay to say it with loud voice. He wouldn’t care anyways.

“Do you want to have your session first?” Hanbin asked playfully.

“No, that’s not what I mean.” She shook her head. Jinwoo who was sitting beside Hanbin laughed.

Hanbin giggled. “Seungyoon had read the scripts last night after we finished watching. He said he had practiced. Let’s give him a try.”

“A-ah, that’s good.” She commented. She glanced at Seungyoon once again. That guy was really immersed with the music in his phone, he closed his eyes. She shook her head. It’s the first time for her to meet a weird guy like this one. He had ignored her and all people, just wait until he glared at everyone. He always did it to the point you would know when he was going to ignore and to glare at people. When Hanbyul came with the scripts and they started to read, Seungyoon didn’t even make a single move from his seat. He kept listening to the music and then, after people finished reading, he rose suddenly from his seat and went to the next room to start recording.

Unbelivable, right? But, later you would see him glaring at everyone.

He looked down at his script and at the time he looked up to face his mic, it was the time when he glared at all people in the next room through the glass door. Seriously, why does this guy have to do that? What are our mistakes to him?

She laughed silently. Seungyoon was very predictable. She stopped laughing when she felt her phone vibrating. Hey, there was a call from private number. She got confused, she barely got calls from private number. Even though she was puzzled, she decided to pick up the call. But, the call was ended before she could even pick it up. She wrinkled her forehead. This is strange.

Seconds later, she got a message from unknown number.

From: 82xxxxxxxx

You will die soon.

She widened her eyes in shock. She didn’t know why she felt this message was not a prank. She suddenly felt scared for no reasons. She looked around, no one in this room was having their phone in their hand. At that time, she looked at Seungyoon. Seungyoon only had scripts in his hands. She gulped. Why did she think it’s a serious thing? Probably it was just someone who sent a message to a wrong number. Yes, that’s one of the possibilites. But, what if there was really a person who tried to terror her? Wait, what? Oh, really, she had too much drama watching. She needed to stop thinking about bad things.

What if it’s true?

She didn’t dare to think about it.

Meanwhile, Seungyoon was glaring at her as usual.
