Chapter 24
The Kwon Family
You took a deep breath, and could feel your heart pound against your chest. You hadn’t been this nervous since you took your last exam in uni.
You had never in a million years imagined that you would adopt a child with a complete stranger, who somehow became your fake boyfriend, but in reality, none of you could tolerate each other since the first day you met.
But you were slowly accepting Yongguk and the way he was. You were opening your eyes to him, you were finally looking at him. You had become used to his bickering and teasing.
You were noticing the little things about him, aside from the fact that he was the best father for Ki Joon, actually the best kind of father you could ask for.
It was hard not to notice those things about him, when you lived under the same roof, right?
For instance, you noticed how he hated coffee, he preferred tea, or iced coffee. But he disliked black coffee, as he didn’t like the bitter taste of it.
Whenever he left for work, he always brought his MacBook with him. It was like the laptop was his precious life. He also spent a lot of time in his studio, after tucking Ki Joon to bed.
Yongguk could be locked up in his studio for hours, and it made you wonder about whether he slept enough or not.
You noticed the way he always greeted Ki Joon happily and with open arms, whenever he came back from work. It was such a loving sight. Anyone would melt, right? You asked yourself. It was natural to feel in awe.
In fact, you couldn’t imagine how the adoption would have gone, if you had never met Yongguk. It was hard to imagine a life with Ki Joon without him. You had grown so used to his help, and his presence, that it had become a natural thing.
Yongguk was truly a good father, he took care of Ki Joon, and loves him deeply. Anyone could tell that Yongguk loves Ki Joon with all his heart, and it melted everyone’s hearts around you, including yours.
Lately, he had been busier with work. He was apparently working on a song for a famous artist. Hence, you were alone with Ki Joon a lot during the evenings and nights.
The day where Yongguk and Ki Joon gets to meet your family has finally come. Hence, the nerves were slowly starting to kick in.
Your foot tapped on the carpet whilst you were finishing up your makeup. You let out a long and deep sigh, as you gazed at your reflection in the mirror.
You kept your makeup simple, because you were visiting your family after all, and you didn’t need to get overly- dressed. However, since it was your first time bringing a man home, you did have to dress up a bit.
You stood up from your stool, and took a step back to view your outfit in the long mirror. You pursed your lips, judging your look. You ran your hands through your hair and puffed it out, making it get some volume at the top.
You had decided to wear a white beaded pencil skirt with pearl threads at the bottom. Your skirt kind of looked like a salsa skirt, due to the pearls at the bottom. You wore a white fitted blouse with sleeves, and heels that went well with your outfit.
You sighed deeply, wondering about why you felt so nervous, and you shook your head. You finally walked out of your bedroom, and headed to Ki Joon’s room. Yongguk was getting Ki Joon ready, whilst you got ready.
He had come to know that you needed more time with getting ready, so he would from time to time make sure that Ki Joon got dressed.
You opened the door, and stuck your head in through the small opening, and you looked out. Instantly, Yongguk met your gaze.
“Are you rea-” He stopped abruptly, when you stepped into the room.
He froze momentarily, and his eyes wandered down you. His lips were slightly apart, and his eyes stopped at your legs.
You gulped hard, when you noticed where his eyes were, and you fiddled with the bottom pearl threads of your skirt.
Your cheeks slowly heated up, and you somehow felt because of his hard stare. Maybe you should have picked a different outfit, his stare made you question.
“Are we done.. now?” You asked, in a small tone.
“Uh.. yeah.” He said, and finally broke off his gaze.
“Can we go now?” Ki Joon chimed, brightly.
You turned to look at the little boy, and you got down on your knees. “Don’t you look handsome.” You cooed, and he hid his face behind Yongguk’s leg.
He wore a blue blouse with sandy colored jeans. He looked cute as always, and you could tell that he got shy at your compliment.
You laughed softly, and he quickly appeared, and wrapped his arms around your neck. You giggled and hugged him into you tightly. It was the best feeling, when he hugged you.
Yongguk let out a soft chuckle. “Come on, the two of you.” He said, and walked out of the room.
Ki Joon quickly ran off, and he ran past Yongguk. The little boy was so excited, and you smiled to yourself as you walked beside Yongguk, down the hallway.
“I have to tell you something.” You began, getting his attention.
Yongguk gazed down at you, and you blinked a couple of times. You felt your face get warm suddenly, and you pulled a hairlock behind your ear.
You glanced down on the floor, unable to meet his sharp gaze. You didn’t know how to tell it, but you had to let him now.
“About the act. Just make sure to keep your manner hands, or my dad will kill you.” You breathed out, and hurried past him, before he could speak up.
“Manner hands?” Yongguk asked aloud, but you ignored him, and hurried down the stairs.
You waited outside his car with Ki Joon, and you looked up, when you saw Yongguk approaching you. You finally got the chance to look at him, and his outfit.
He was dressed quite simple, he wore blue jeans, white sneakers, and a denim blouse, which he kept ed, and he wore a white t-shirt underneath.
Your eyes fell at his collars, and you caught a glimpse of his chest tattoo. You breathed deeply, his gaze was on the ground, and he played with his car keys in his hand.
He looked handsome no matter what he wore, and he had a side parting. His hair had become a bit longer, but it really suited him. He kind of looked quite charming with the long hair.
You shook your head, when you realized that you were ogling at him. You turned your back against him, and stared out into the road. You were bewildered for a moment, because of your thoughts.
But nevertheless, you had always thought he was handsome, since the first day you saw him, you cursed at him for being so handsome, and a pain in the , at times.
You tensed, and jumped of startle, when you felt a hand on your lower back. “You are standing in front of the door.” His deep voice purred, making you snap back to reality.
You quickly pulled away, and Yongguk gazed into your eyes. He had a smirk on his face. Then he opened the door to the passenger seat, and helped Ki Joon get in.
“Sit at the front.” He announced, after he got Ki Joon in his seat, and closed his door, safely.
“What?” You asked as you looked at him with a clueless look.
Yongguk walked up to you, and you froze, and stared at him. “Ki Joon can sit in the backseat alone now, he has done well every time. Sit at the front.” With that sentence, he walked past you, and headed to the driver’s seat.
You stood in front of the passenger seat, and stared out for a moment. Then you opened the door and got in the seat. You had never sat in the front seat with Yongguk before, because you had to keep an eye on Ki Joon, at the beginning.
But he was right, Ki Joon was big enough to sit alone at the backseat, and he was comfortable now, which was the bigger reason. However, you quickly looked behind you, and at the little boy, to make sure he was alright.
“Are you alright there?” You asked, and he nodded with a smile, and hugged onto Tigger.
Yongguk suddenly frowned, and gazed at you. You felt his eyes on you, and turned to look at him. You raised your brows.
“What’s wrong?” You asked with wide eyes.
“Did you give Tigger his food?” He asked, with clear concern in his tone.
He loved his dog so much, you smiled and nodded. “Yes, of course.” You told, and you noticed how he instantly got relieved.
“Good, then we can go now.” He announced.
“Why can’t Tigger come?” Ki Joon asked.
“Tigger has to stay at home, sweetheart.” You said, and Ki Joon pouted.
Yongguk gazed at Ki Joon, and smiled brightly, because he saw how the little boy felt upset. Ki Joon also loves Tigger a lot, and it made Yongguk happy.
“But you have your other Tigger with you.” He said, and the little boy looked at the stuffed Tigger in his hands, and nodded with a smile.
You smiled to yourself, when you heard the two boys. Yongguk always had a way, he always knew how to make Ki Joon feel better. He was truly a good father.
Yongguk glanced towards you, and noticed your smile. He pursed his lips to hide his smile, and looked out on the road.
“Well saved.” You whispered to him.
Yongguk looked your way, and winked at you. You rolled your eyes and laughed. You knew he felt so proud.
“Is there anything I should know about your parents or brother?” He asked.
You stiffened, and stared out for a moment whilst you thought. You shook your head, after a moment.
“Other than what I said before. My dad is quite protective, so be prepared for getting questioned.” You sighed.
“So, I should keep my hands to myself, huh?” He asked, teasingly, and you rolled your eyes.
“Yeah, you don’t need to act touchy around my family. They are quite conservative.” You explained.
“What if I can’t do that?” He suddenly asked, and his tone became deeper.
“Wha-what?” You stammered.
You met his gaze, and your cheeks heated up. He ran his tongue over his plump lips, and bit onto his bottom lip. You noticed how his lips curved into a grin. Yongguk chuckled, when he saw your cheeks flush up.
“Be glad the kid is here. Don’t test me.” You threatened, when you realized that he was teasing you.
“Oh.. I’m getting scared of you. You are so big and strong, Kwon. I’m afraid you’ll take me down.” He mocked, and you leaned in, and punched his shoulder with a lot of strength, startling him.
“Jesus, Kwon.” He shouted.
“I told you not no test me.” You fired back.
He rubbed his shoulder quickly, but then a smile formed on his face, and his eyes lit up. “You are something else.” He suddenly said, and you narrowed your eyes.
Ki Joon was laughing in his seat at the pair of you, and his laughter made you pull yourself together. “Stop it.” You pleaded.
“With what?” He aske
