The DameIt’s not every day that she finally has some time to herself. She took off her clothes and dipped her feet into the marble bath tub. The warm water cocooned her like a butterfly larvae in its wrappings and she sighed in heavy contentment. This is the life.
After this, she has another charity party to attend to, hosted by her son-in-law Kim Jongdae. It was to raise awareness for AIDS and he had begged her to make an appearance at the party. She tried to refuse, saying that she didn’t feel so good but her son-in-law and daughter insisted that she come. She had no choice but to accept. How can you say no to family?
She has had a pretty good day so far. She stayed in the office, discussing terms and conditions to the funding of a new technology that could one day save millions of lives. It was ground-breaking, but still very much in its prototype stages. The project needed investment, and she has finally secured an investor. However, she needed another one.
She thought of all the things to tell her children to get them to invest in it. Imagine the lives it will save. Imagine the billions of dollars it could help to save. Imagine a world free from the disaster. You children and even grandchildren will never fall victim to it again. You will never need to feel the pain of loss.
The gratifying feeling of accomplishment was wonderful. She felt so close to her goal, she could literally reach out and grab it with her hands. She thought about the sacrifices she had made in order to achieve such a dream. She looked down at her fingers and noticed all the curves and etches made into her once smooth, alabaster skin. Age has not always been kind to her as she touched the fourth finger on her left hand. She missed having something to embellish that finger.
She felt her eyelids drooping down, as if they were weighed down by a ton of bricks. She tried to keep her consciousness, but it failed. Her eyes drooped down and before she could take her next breath, her mind emptied and her consciousness disappeared. She didn’t even feel her heart stop, and she definitely did not feel her body slipping forward and the water rushing into every hole of her body.
She felt nothing.
She was no longer there.
It was quick and painless. The kind of death she longed for.
