The MV that started my K-Pop journey in 2008 // 10 year Fangirling Anniversary. lol.
At first, I was a fan of J-Pop. My number one J-Pop group was Arashi (and they still are to this day).
I watched their movies, dorama, music videos.
I enjoyed more of Japanese entertainment back when I was 12-years old. This was in 2005.
Fast forward 3 years later, I was on a website crunchyroll where I was busy watching anime.
There was an international chatroom and I joined in.
We asked each other who our favorite groups were and someone mentioned 'DBSK'
I was like "Who's that?"
They were shocked I didn't know who they were. They said they were the best singers in the world.
It was hard to believe because that's what I thought of Arashi.
They mentioned them and i was like "Okay."
I didn't think I should get into them but it did spark curiousity.
On the sidebar, there is a recommended videos section on crunchyroll (the same as youtube now).
I saw "TVXQ - You're my Miracle"
There were five members and a piano and I was like "Eh? Who's this?"
Not thinking TVXQ = DBSK as the same group
I watched it and was blown away by the vocals. I was like damn they're good.
BUT
This didn't make me love them yet.
I knew now that DBSK existed.
Later on, I found out about Super Junior.
I was impressed by Korean music by then.
It took me a while but in 2009, Tohoshinki released the single "Why did I fall in love with you"
My stupid self didn't think TVXQ = DBSK = TOHOSHINKI
I was so immersed in Japanese but it didn't get me thinking that Tohoshinki was just the Japanese name of DBSK.
Dumb I know.
So I got interested in Tohoshinki.
I researched all of their Japanese singles.
I downloaded even Korean singles.
I was shocked they knew how to sing in Korean.
You know how titles have the artist name? Some titles had DBSK on it.
That's when I pieced it together.
That DBSK = TVXQ = Tohoshinki
The puzzle had been solved.
I found out that TVXQ is a group of 5 Koreans that can sing in two languages
And all members are fluent in Japanese
And one member fluent in English
And that's it.
I NEVER LOOKED BACK. I'M STILL INTO K-POP.
