Mid-afternoon was the time of day. Jongin felt the sun beat down on him mercilessly. He wiped his forehead before looking across the field. Kim Jongin is a field player: he mostly plays basketball. He originally wanted to play because he wanted to run across a field, holding a ball. But lucky for him, he was put on defense. He didn't exactly love the position that his coach chose, but he was representing their college. He needed to do his best, no matter if he was a net keeper or water boy.
He heard the whistle blow. He watched the men in their uniforms run with the ball, tossing it from player to player. Jongin looked toward the crowd, seeing Dee sitting there. She had a distracted look on her features. His heart felt concerned. She had been giving these distanced and distracted looks these past couple of weeks.
His attention went back to the game as he heard screams near him. He looked around until he found the ball. He cracked his neck as he watched it go from player to player. Sehun thought he was doing a good job with his strong throw. And he was, if Jongin wasn't there.
Jongin jumped up high, hitting the ball. It then landed out of the field. The referee blew his whistle. Jongin looked at the girl in the crowd before looking at the scoreboard.
"Exo-L wins!" The referee screeched.
Jongin stood up straight and bowed to the opposing team members. "Good game, Boys." The captain, Minseok, said.
"I'm still so surprised how you can compete against a team you're brother's in." Yixing commented as he handed Minseok a bottle of water.
Minseok shrugged. "Jongdae loves to play against me." He chuckled. He then looked at Jongin who seemed distracted. "Jongin-ah, is everything okay?" He asked.
Jongin looked up from the field. "Yeah.. I'm just thirsty, that's all." He chuckled. "I'm going to go see how Dee is." He waved.
"Hey," Yixing held his shoulder, "she seems to be down recently." He commented.
Jongin hummed and accepted the water that Yixing offered. "It's been concerning me, honestly." He said. "So.."
"Go on and talk to her then." Minseok insisted. "You'll have to find her, because she's missing from the crowd." He pointed.
Jongin looked toward the seats and noticed her spot missing. As if she was never there. "Okay, see you guys later?" He smiled.
Yixing hummed. "Good luck." He gave a fighting smile.
Jongin looked across the college campus until he saw her at the fountain: their place. The place that they cheered each other up from the breakups; the place they realized their love for each other; the place they first kissed. Jongin felt like there was going to be a new moment for this beautiful fountain.
He quietly walked up to her, of course she noticed. She kept her arms around her waist as she watched the water flow from the fountain. He walked up behind her, putting his chin on her head as he put his hands on her hands.
"Tell me your worries, Love." Jongin whispered, watching the water drop.
At the same time, a tear travels down Dee's cheek. "Jongin.." She muttered. "..I'm a failure.." She said.
Jongin moved closer to her. "What makes you say that?" He asked softly.
"I.." She sniffled. "I failed three exams this week.." Dee answered. "I'm a failure." She repeated.
Jongin closed his eyes as he felt her body tremble. "Let me tell you what all makes you a success." He insisted.
"You're strong, courageous, and brave." Jongin started. "Pretty, beautiful, and gorgeous; smart, resourceful, and reliable; and most importantly, I love you." Jongin listed everything. "And the only thing that matters more than any of that to me, is that you love me."
Dee wiped her tears before turning back. "You did well today." She complimented. "You're the best basketball player." She continued.
Jongin smiled, cupping her cheek. "That's because you're on my team." He said, leaning in and kissing her lips. "I could never be where I am without you." He whispered against her lips.
She moved her lips against his, bringing him closer. "I just wish I was doing better with my classes.." She brought her concern back.
He hummed and felt up and down her back. "I'll help you." He offered. "We can study together." He continued.
"But your games.."
"I can't practice all day." Jongin chuckled. "I need to give my legs a break too, so I can study with you when we're together." He insisted. "I'll help you remember everything. The professor won't believe you're the same woman." He winked.
Dee giggled and slapped his chest. "You're an idiot." She had a big smile.
Jongin blushed at her cute smile. "Yes, but your idiot." He included.
Dee put her face on his chest. "You must be hungry." She muttered. "Let's go eat." She said, pushing herself against him in the hug.
Jongin kissed her head. "Alright, once you're done being my cuddly, bear." He said.
"I'll always be your bear~" She cooed.
Jongin laughed and patted her head. "Good girl~" He cooed back.
