THERE’S only one word to describe that certain meal time–-awkward. No one would think that it was a reunion of a family who didn’t manage to see their youngest for such a long time. Junsu and Sookyoung were giving each other glances as their way of communication, obviously looking worried about their eldest who only managed to get three spoonfuls of her meal.

“This is really delicious!” Liz said with a wide smile on her face. “I really like this!”

Yujin just smiled while looking at her cute girlfriend. She wiped the sauce from the side of her Liz’s lips, making the latter turn red again in embarrassment. “S-Sauce?”

“Yeah.” Yujin shook her head. She couldn’t help but to smile at the cuteness. “I told you Minjoo-unnie’s cooking is really great.”

Hearing that compliment, Minjoo forced a smile just to not let Yujin down. She looked at the other girl only to see that Yujin was already smiling at her. “Thank you for preparing food for me, Unnie. I really missed your cooking.”

Minjoo averted her space but somehow kept the faint smile on her face. “No worries, I’m glad Liz-ssi likes my cooking too.”

“This is definitely much, much tastier than the dishes my mother makes!” Liz said with excitement. “She’s really bad at cooking but she tries from time to time.”

“That is very cute of her mum.” Sookyoung commented, still taking glances at her daughter from time to time. “You said your mum is Korean, right?”

“Yes~” Liz cheerfully answered. “My mum is Korean while my dad is from Canada but he resides now in Chicago.”

“I see. That’s why you are good at Korean.” Sookyung then cleared while giving meaningful glances to her husband. Yujin immediately understood the meaning of that action and laughed. Junsu could only keep his head down. 

“I was busy making a living for both of us, you know?” The man said his usual excuse. It was indeed true that he worked so hard for both of them. It was also hard to forget about his first wife so instead of drowning himself in alcohol, he just chose to be workaholic. 

“And so…” Junsu pressed his lips together, showing his deep dimples that his daughter also inherited. “Is it also Liz that made you straighten your tongue up when it comes to Korean?”

“Yes.” Yujin answered with a blinding smile on her face. “This one tortured me well until my Korean got into conversational level.”

“What are you talking about torture?” Liz said while taking awkward glances at Yujin’s family. “It’s ‘tutored’, Yujin!”

Junsu just shook his head but the smile on his face was evidently a smile of relief. Minjoo saw that smile of her father and her head lowered even more. It still felt like yesterday when she and Yujin were walking in very fragile glass. Who would’ve thought that Richard would actually look like that after his daughter came out and even brought a girlfriend home. She couldn’t help but to wonder…

‘How would things work out if we were brave back then? What could’ve been if we managed to be true about ourselves before we even parted?’

She looked at Yujin again and was surprised once more to meet Yujin’s gaze. The girl was looking worriedly at her. “Is there something wrong, Unnie? Are you even eating?”

The parents looked at each other again and were obviously hurt when they saw Minjoo forced another smile. “I-It’s just… I am the one who prepared the food so yeah… I was taking small bites while preparing so I got full easily.”

“Is that so?” Yujin looked relieved. “That’s good to know then. I thought you were sick or something.”

“No…” Minjoo smiled. “Are you guys done? Want me to get dessert?”
