Perfect Goodbye
Destiny
"Still no words from you?"
"Yerin, it's not like it's easy to tell you."
"But you told about it to your—a new friend."
"Can you stop talking about her?"
"Why should I when I haven't received any answers yet."
"Yerin."
Yuju's eyes looked weak. She seemed too tired for the debate. Meanwhile, from the handlebars, Eunbi was still silent, listening to the debate of a pair of lovers sitting in the back seat. Before leaving, Yuju put a large backpack on the front seat—so it can be carried easily in an emergency, that's what Yuju told her. From the rear view mirror, Eunbi stole glances several times, worried about Yerin's state who looked so shocked and worried about Yuju, a fact that really stabbed her heart.
"It had been tough days I spent to find you."
"I know. I'm sorry."
Yuju held Yerin's body tightly and gave a kiss to her lips, making the atmosphere much calmer than before, even though it was clear that what was happening in Eunbi's mind was something that was opposite to that condition. She looked straight and kept driving, about fifteen minutes before they finally entered the downtown area, Paris. Eunbi kept her mind blank while focusing on bringing them all to the hotel where she was staying at the beginning. She had phoned Mathieu beforehand to prepare for their arrival.
Eunbi relaxed her shoulders and took a few slow, deep breaths and stopped to steal glances at the two people behind her. However, five minutes later, she noticed something strange. She realized that there were two black SUVs that had been following them.
"I really don't want to disturb you two." Eunbi finally said something. "But I think those cars are following us."
"Eunbi. Can you drive faster, please?"
As the black van's approaching, Yuju recognized that those were actually the same cars that tried to catch her back around a month ago. Eunbi was driving swiftly and tried to lead on by taking some alternative routes. It wasn't her first time in Paris, actually, she visited Paris a lot and enjoyed driving around the city. Eunbi turned the car suddenly to one, and another aisles and parked in a narrow, dark courtyard so that the spies could be fooled. It worked. They lost the track. Eunbi decided to stay there for another while making sure everything's safe.
"Who are they, Yuju?" Eunbi asked. "What's going on?"
"Let's get away from here."
"We're not going anywhere before you answer it all, baby." Yerin interrupted. She was so done, and Yuju clearly knew it. "We're not going anywhere. I repeat."
"Yerin, let's not—"
"I'M ING DONE YUJU! TELL ME NOW!"
Even Eunbi was surprised to hear that curse. Yerin's eyes reflected the anger that she had kept inside herself for so long. All the time, energy, everything she has spent looking for Yuju all this time, she felt like Yuju has an obligation to enlighten her about the problem, especially since it is clearly putting them at risk.
"It was the people sent by my brother."
"What it has to do with your brother?"
"When I came to Paris, I came for my dream." Yuju explained. "Then one day, when I arrived at Kim Bogeun's—Yewon's brother, gallery, I found a surprising fact. I found my brother. I acknowledged his dirty secret I never expected it. And he's here now to chase me, and... to kill me."
"Your brother? Kill you? Are you mad?"
"It's weird I know. But that's the truth."
"What secret?"
"It's something related to my family." Yuju started to cry silently. "I will explain it all to you, but I need time. Please."
Yerin was unable to react, nor could she suspect any secret that was hidden there. She lied her whole body into the chair and leaned back, hoping that someone she hoped would be there, could hug and comfort her as usual. Things got so out of control, so awkward and Eunbi decided to step on the accelerator and drive back to the original destination.
"So, what's your plan?" Eunbi asked.
"We should hide somewhere."
"Hide? Where? That's exactly you're doing for months and where does that lead you?"
"I should try to quit this country. I tried, but they keep on chasing me."
"Are you sure about that?" Eunbi glanced at her. "That your brother would want to kill you."
Yuju nodded. It seemed that she was thinking harder than ever. Suddenly, Eunbi's phone was ringing. It's Sejeong. Later she ordered Yuju to pick up and put it on loudspeaker mode while still driving.
"Eunbi-ah."
"Sejeong. What's—"
"Are you okay? Where are you know?"
"I'm okay, Sejeong."
"My sister just told me that—"
The phone was taken over, and the soft voice of someone else was heard on the line.
"Hwang Eunbi-ssi. Is Yuju with you?"
"Yewon-ah. I'm here."
"Yuju-yah. I got your message." Her voice was trembling. "I checked it. It's confirmed. Your brother
