The Boys Next Door
Description
prologue:
"Fantastic, another letter about how much they love their life without me."
"Haneul! Cut your parents some slack. Trying to make a living in Korea is a lot easier said than done, my dear." my aunt patted my back. "Regardless of the fact that your father managed to get the professor position."
I scoffed. "Yeah, and that's exactly why they decided to leave me here. And never even bothered to visit for the past freaking 10 years!" I threw my hands in the air before shaking my head and taking the letter from my aunt's hand. She sighed. "Your dad was taking a risk with all or nothing back then, but they wanted better for you! They distinctively told me that they would bring you there once they were ready." she gestured towards the letter. "Maybe they're ready?"
I rolled my eyes. That's what she's been saying every time a letter came. Without anticipation, I ran the letter opener across the envelope and spilled out the contents.
And for the first time, I couldn't believe my eyes.
Sure enough, there laid the familiar typed letter from my father.
Dearest Daughter,
Haneul, it's been a really long time since I've written to you, and I apologized for that. I've been a bit busy finishing up my class, but I know that's no excuse. Anyways, I've been waiting for this moment for a really long time, and again, I'm so sorry that it had to take so much time. I know that you'll be a college freshman next year, and I thought that this would be the perfect time. So, I conveniently pulled strings at the University and after looking at your records (which I am very proud of, might I mention), they've decided to accept you this upcoming March. I know that the semesters are laid out differently in the States, so I'm hoping that once you get here, you could spend the first couple months getting to know your new family, as well as catching up with your mother and I. I can't wait to see how much you've grown, and I hope to hear from you soon. We both love you dearly.
with much love,
Dad.
I blinked as I slowly moved the letter out of the way to see a plane ticket. "Auntie.." I looked at her, still in disbelief. "I'm going to Korea."
