I Hate Myself for Loving You
Description
“The Bumbling Beauty”
A sweet girl that dreamt of gracing big name magazines as the cover girl, donning outfits from high fashion designers, and becoming one of the top models in Seoul. She has achieved that dream. At only 23, Nana is ranked the most beautiful woman in South Korea; overtaking Kim Tae Hee and Song Hye Kyo. Her cupcake personality and envious figure has taken everyone’s hearts.
“The Best Friend”
Classified as a second generation chaebol, Changmin has become tired of the label. Although he was born into it doesn’t mean he has to like it. His interest is not in taking over the family business of raising idols but rather free lance marketing. He upholds himself as one of the most wanted men in Seoul. Pairing that with his sarcastic attitude and prideful ways, he’s both wanted and hated.
“The Boyfriend”
A world renown choreographer whose work has appeared in forms of tops stars to global sensations, Eunhyuk is both talented and humble. He believes that one’s sole purpose is to find their other half. Eunhyuk is a romantic at heart that truly takes care of his loved ones.
“The Cynic”
A personality that mimics the one of his best friend, Kyuhyun is the one that understands Changmin the most, other than Nana, because of their shockingly similar despise for reality. Kyuhyun is loyal with friends but unfaithful in love. After having his heart crushed, he is now Seoul’s Casanova.
“The Drama Queen”
Honest, loud, and frivolous are only some characteristics of this animated person. He speaks what is on his mind and never holds back. His harsh and senseless words are paired with Nana’s constant apologies and explanations. Nana is his best friend for life and a person he’ll always give help to.
Prologue:
“I will smack you in the face, Shim Changmin!”
Those were the last few words I said to him in the middle of Incheon International airport.
I met Changmin when I was nine, became friends with him at nine and a half, then became best friends on my tenth birthday. Since then we were attached by the hip all through grade school and uni. We used to do everything together. Literally. When I got my first kiss, he was on the other side of the restaurant with his fifth girlfriend. When I got my first boyfriend, he beat him up for me when the guy broke my heart. Whenever I cried, he showed up five seconds later with a box of tissues. He swore to me that he'll always be there. Promises are meant to be kept right? Or, is that a fairy tale, too?
Once we graduated, we were set on going to different graduate schools. Suddenly, everything begin to unravel. Our tight bond from before was replaced with many days of phone calls or texts. Sometimes, we wouldn't even contact each other because we were so busy. Even so, I still knew just one request would have him rushing to my side. I always had him to rely on. Soon, I became dependent on that fact. It wasn't until he told me that he was leaving that I became so bitter and angry. I was spoiled by the knoweledge of his near existence. If he leaves, will my world really shatter as I once imagined it to be?
Through it all, I foolishly forgot one factor: my boyfriend, Eunhyuk. I came to depend on Changmin too much that I didn't know how to rely on another man. In his eyes, I'm so independent and willful. However, once he leaves to go abroad, I'm in shambles. I'm so fragile and delicate just like how my family sees me. The truth caught up to me so quickly that I became flustered when forced to choose between a person whom accepts me for all that I am or a person who innocently believes in everything I say. I need them, but, do I need both of them?
How did I live so selfishly for so long?
