Drowning Lessons

Description

drowninglessons

“There are all kinds of addicts, I guess. We all have pain. And we all look for ways to make the pain go away. (107)”—Sherman Alexie

You'd never imagine water--the universal solvent--could ever be more than just that.

Foreword

“—en? Chen?”

The voice drags him out of his reverie.

               “Yeah?”

               “Maybe you should sleep more.”

               “Yeah.”

Jong Dae already knows he’ll spend the night sleepless and hypnotised by the sound of water falling against porcelain.

k so i feel like i'm stepping out of my comfort zone by writing something so ... well quite frankly, weird, so feel free to critique but keep my fragile ego in mind please (i kid, i kid). in any case, this was inspired by a conversation i had with a friend once about drowning and she said the oddest thing to me then; i told her i thought the best way to die would be to drown and she told me she could never drown herself because she would enjoy the feeling of being underwater too much and voila, this fic was spawned! it was also inspired by Daisuke_Tsubaki's the taste of iron is starvation which i recommend because it's amazing @_@. and that's it. also, this story is purely fictious and i do not own exo-m nor am i profiting by the writing of this story.

Chapter 1: This chapter is seriously heartbreaking.
The struggle Chen goes through is no joke. I like the way you protrayed it his character, though.

Why is it that I always see Chen tied to psychological fictions? I guess he fits the role.
Anyhow, I love it so far. Please update soon xD.

Chapter 1: Dude, your writing is so much better than mine, mine's like word vomit and this is just really beautiful.

I love your vocabulary and writing style. It's so descriptive and the imagery is wonderful. I can picture everything and I can just see all of this happening, Jongdae's little spiral into addiction.

But seriously, this hurts because it just makes me think about Chen and his struggle for being noticed in EXO, especially if he had debuted in Korea first where most likely he probably would have been really popular. But being in China and having the language barrier and the others unable to put spotlight on him well like Luhan did with Xiumin, it's painful to see. Not going to lie, sometimes I wished Jongdae would have went solo just for the fact that he's so talented and if he struggles at something, he works hard until he's doing better than most. So being able to write all the insecurities he may have over being in China is definitely a good basis to start this and expand on. :)

I like the comparison between singing and the water, because it definitely gives that feeling that it's only a matter of time until Jongdae can't look at singing that way anymore as addiction to water takes over his mind. I'm anticipating his spiral down into madness and to see how he's found out. Not going to lie, but I can't help but picture this scene in my head that he's going to use the bathtub soon and somehow start using that instead of the sink and probably using heavy objects to keep him under longer... Haha, my imagination is running a bit wild for your story.

I like that your subtly bringing in ways telling us that Jongdae isn't coping as well as he seems and is subconsciously giving off 'help me' signals even if he doesn't want to. The tiredness, the missteps in practice, his nervousness, etc...

Really enjoying this so far, keep up the good work and I can't wait until the next installment. :D

Update whenever you can.
