It’s been two days since Eunbi taking her day off. I don’t really know why she take an off day when it’s pretty busy here in our department. From what I remember, Eunbi isn’t someone like that. She will never leave the office if her work isn’t finish yet. I couldn’t help but to remember again the night where she drunkenly called me, but that time Eunbi didn’t say anything.

It’s weird but sometimes, I always forget that she is not in the office whenever I take a glance on my mirror. I don’t know but, it is empty without her. Maybe it’s because there’s no Sojung and Eunbi voice filling our whole room. The couple is busy nowadays and I couldn’t really talk to them because I’m afraid that I will disturb their focus.

Yewon?!”

“H—huh?”

“What are you thinking?”

“No—nothing. It’s nothing! Why?”

“Are you okay? I’ve called you like three times already but you seems—off?”

“I’—I’m okay. It’s nothing. Why?”

“It’s lunch hour already but we don’t really want to go out to café today. We’ve been thinking to just order delivery food, is that will be okay for you?”

“Ohh~ That sounds good. I also don’t have any mood to go anywhere today”

“Babe, I want double cheese burger! It’s almost eight month since I ate one! I want it two. Ahh~ and also pizza!” Eunha say, still fixed her eyes on the computer.

“You said you want lose weight! What’s with pizza and burger now!? No. I’m not ordering that for you!”

“Babe~~~ Please~~”

“No means no Eunha”

I can just smile silently, listening to them arguing is so cute. I feels like I am a third wheel in this room. I want to go out and just give them a space to talk, not because I feel uncomfortable but I think Sojung really need to let Eunha have some burger because I can see how her let out a tears after didn’t get want she want.

“I’m done ordering. Black bean noodles for three of us and kimbab. That should be okay for today’s lunch”

“How about my burger?! Pizza?!”

“No means no, honey! You really need to diet!”

“I’ve been dieting for almost a year!”

“Still a no to me! Come on! You should be thankful that I let you eat noodles instead of some stupid salads!”

Sojung raise her voice sternly. Showing Eunha that she really stick into her decision and at the same time, there’s Eunha who just being silent and look at her pc continuing her work. She just pretending it because all I see is her tears that flowing out from her eyes. She clearly look disappointed from Sojung’s words.

Few months working with them, I rarely see Sojung raised her voice to Eunha. It’s like, I never see her shout or raising her voice before. When it comes to Eunha, Sojung always being gently and softly but I guess not today. Frankly speaking, Eunbi is the only person Sojung raised her voice to but today, it is my first time hearing her shouting like that, over some food. The atmosphere in the room suddenly feel awkward to me so I decide to leave the room for a while.

“I’m going to washroom”

“I’m going with you”

I didn’t really meant to go to washroom. It’s just I want them to talk and have their private time for a while because I think they need to talk. It’s been an awkward moment for me when everyone being silent after that burger and pizza incident. I didn’t expect that Eunha will follow me along and instead of going to washroom, Eunha bring me to the rooftop telling me that she want to talk to me.

“Yewon-ah? Do you think—do you think she love me for real?” Her sudden question confuse me.

“What do you mean? Who is she? Sojung?” Eunha nodded weakly.

“Of—of course she does. Why would you think like that?”

“But why do I feel she don’t really love me. She always being like that, she never let me eat anything what I want. She always told me to lose weight”

“Eunha it’s—“

“Yewon-ah, do you think I’m fat?”

“No—no! You are not fat. Both of us are just same. You are cute! You should know that”

“So you want to say that you are cute too? Aren’t you?”

“I—I I didn’t say that. But if that what you think about me, then I’m cute too”

“I don’t understand why Sojung always told me to diet!”

“Maybe she just want to tease you”

“Why would she?!”

“Because you are cute”

I said that hoping that Eunha will laugh, but instead she let out a sigh.

“You know what? If Sinb in that room just now, she will let me eat anything I want. Sinb is the only person that let me do anything that I want”

“Why is that?”

“Because she know me. She is my childhood friend. She know everything what makes me happy, anything that makes me sad but that Sojung! She never understand me!”

“Eun—Eunha-yah—“

“I don’t understand myself. Why would I date Sojung in the first place! When I think about it again, I shouldn’t date her back then. I don’t know where I get that courage asking her out years ago! Ahh~ I’m such a stupid! And I now I get a girlfriend who didn’t understand anything about me!”

“Eunha, Sojung is—“

“I must be really desperate that time. Just because Sinb is dating with our officemates make me have a desire to dating too. I shouldn’t do that. I shouldn’t date Sojung back then”

“Eunha! You can’t say that. What—what if Sojung heard you! She might feel hurt from your words! Take your words back. You—you love her doesn’t you?”

“I don’t know. I just don’t know”

“Wha—what do you mean you don’t know. You love her right?”

“I don’t know. I just feel regret about it”

It was my fault. I shouldn’t go out from the office at the first place. If I didn’t follow Eunha just now, no one will get hurt. If we didn’t go to the rooftop none of these thing will happen. But it’s too late. I’m such a stupid for let everything happen. I should just stop Eunha words. And now I’m left alone in the office with three bowl black bean noodle, kimbab, two hamburger and two pizza that hasn’t been touched with Mrs Choi standing in front of me. Sojung left the office just like that and Eunha taking her emergency leave even though Mrs. Choi didn’t let her.

But I can’t say much. It’s all my fault. I know the reason why they act like that. I saw how Sojung’s face change after heard Eunha words at the rooftop. I didn’t realize that she followed me and Eunha to the rooftop. I’m pretty sure no one behind us when we went to the rooftop and I have no idea how did Sojung found me and Eunha at the rooftop? It’s no use thinking about that anymore, Sojung already heard everything. How I’m supposed to do now?!

“Sighing?! Yah! Are you even listening to me?!”

“I—I’m sorry Mrs. I—I’m totally aware about your war—warning. I—“

“Hwang?! I want you come to the office right now and look at how your team behave! Leaving the office without my concern, taking their own decision without my permission. I want you to come here right now!”

“No buts! Right now Hwang! And I’m waiting!”

I’m so doomed. I have no idea why Mrs Choi called Eunbi at this time. Eunbi is taking her day off for god sake and now Mrs Choi called her to come to the office. This is all my fault. Eunbi might be totally mad if it like this.

“Mrs Choi, i—it’s—I think you shouldn’t ca—call her, it—it’s—she don’t even know anything about this. I will settle this thing and will try to reach my mates after this”

“I don’t want to listen any of your excuses! I’ve said this many time right? Any problem that any of you causes, I will summon your leader! I don’t care if she taking her day off or not!”

“I—I can—I can do all these work by mys—“

“If she arrive tell her to come to my office! You can’t do all these thing alone Kim, due date is tomorrow!”

It’s my first time seeing Mrs Choi being mad like that. Of course she always mad and shout to others and us before, but it’s really my first time witnessing her shout like that. Her eyes just now, it’s completely red and I can feel it, how stressed she is after no one listening to her warning. Not even Sojung, her most trusted staff after Eunbi.

I have lose my appetite and just continue do my work while waiting for Eunbi. I think I shouldn’t call her to ask about her where bout, because I don’t think she will be happy hearing that question, especially it’s her day off.

When I was focus typing the report, someone open the door and it’s Eunbi who wearing her casual clothes with a definitely unfriendly expression that shown on her face.

“Eu—Eunbi? You are here?”

“Obviously” She stated. No friendly tone can be heard from her voice.

“Boss said—she said she want to see you in her office ri—right after you arrive. I—I think she’s waiting” I said that and after that without any words, Eunbi close the door disappear from my sight.

What is this feeling? What is wrong with me? Why do I feel disappointed by her act just now? Come on Yewon, who will be happy coming to office when it’s their off day?

Office hour is almost come to an end, but seems I can’t go back earlier than my usual time. I need to finish the report that was supposed to be Sojung’s and Eunha’s. Mrs Choi is right, I can’t do it alone and that is why, I can heard Eunbi behind me throwing files, paper, pens on her desk. Signaling that she isn’t really in a good mood. I can’t really talk to her and ask her regarding the reports, she is literally in bad mood.

“Why do you guys always being like this whenever I take my day off?! This is so annoying! These two seriously!”

Like always, I take a glance on the mirror wanting to look at Eunbi. I know the words isn’t for me. She is just nagging alone while doing the works, it’s just I can’t help but to spare a glance to her, watching her secretly doing the work. Even though she keep nagging and sighing, her eyes never leave the computer in front of her.

“Have you done typing the report for KWF’s?”

“H-huh? Wha—what did you say again?!” I was startled by her sudden question. I guess I have been stared on her too much without realize that she already facing me with a look on her face that I can’t understand.

“I’m asking you if you done the report for KWF’s”

“Y—yeah sure—I’m printing it right now—and the soft copy it’s all done. Only W—WP’s left”

“Ok good, give KWF’s to me, for me to check it first and continue do WP’s. I think all of this will be done late, is it okay for you? You might going back too late”

“I—I’m okay. It should be okay”

“If you are okay then I can’t say anything. Just let me know if you want to go back earlier. I’m okay doing this alone”

“It’s alright. I can do it”

No words can be heard after that. After I answer her, she already swift her chair and when I try to release a relief sigh that I thought she didn’t realize me for staring at, her first five words make me embarrassed that I want to hide under the table.

“Don’t stared too much at me, we might be really going back late than what we expect”

“N—no—i—I didn’t—I’m just—it’s—“

“It’s okay, just continue typing, no need for explanation. I understand you”

She understand me? What does she mean by that? Why would she suddenly said that she understand me? Did she mean that she understand me staring at her for all this time? Which part of understand that she meant? I’m the one who don’t understand anything here.

 “Yewon-ah?”

“We really need to finish this tonight. Don’t think about anything, don’t think about that scarecrow and dwarf, don’t stare at my back for too long, just focus on doing the work till finish okay?”

Heck! So she know for all this time that I was staring at her?! I don’t have a words to say back at her. Thinking about that make me really want to hide under the table. Can I just go back right now? Can I just leave Eunbi alone in the office and run to hide my face?! This is so embarrassing!

“Time is tickling Kim Yewon”

Eunbi voice out again. It is short but I can sensing that her tone is changing to her strict mode. And I know I need to focus on my work than snoozing around. So I shook my head, taking a deep breath and start to typing for another report hoping that it will finish before Eunbi ask it again.

I sigh not a relief one but I think it’s more like a heavy sigh. I should be happy because after five hours struggling with the paperwork, finally I can go back home and get my sleep peacefully. That should be my first ever plan and actually that is the plan. But the thought, it’s all fly in the air after I remember that my car is still at workshop and I’m totally forgetting that I need to take a train and busses which is obviously not operating anymore. It’s almost 12 at the midnight and the taxi rarely passed around my workplace. I take out my phone, thinking about someone that can give me a little help but the worse thing is, my phone is run out of battery.

With a hopeless mind, I walk out from the lobby and wait in front of the main building, still thinking about a way that can help me to get home as fast as I can. It’s creeping me out, I’m not someone who easily get scared but dark is totally not my type. I’m scared of the dark, I hate it. Even my own bedroom, I never let it dark just for a second, I never switch off the lamp whenever I go to sleep.

Eunbi.

Just when I thought a little about her, her car suddenly appear in front of me. I saw her getting out from her seat and come close to me, I can’t even say any words when she pull my hand and forcefully let me sit at the passenger seat.

“Why are you still here?!” She shout.

 No, I think it is not shouting. She just asking me with a mad tone and raise her voice a bit.

“I—i—“

“You told me that you will be okay and leave the office earlier than me saying that you need to go to the parking lot, but why are you here now?! Where’s your car?”

“Eunbi—i—“

“You are lying to me! I hate it when someone lie to me!”

She shout but I don’t know why I can’t say anything to her. My mouth seems too heavy for me to answer any of her question. I’m just surprised because she suddenly appear in front of me and shouting at me.

“Hey I’m asking you!”

“Wa—wait—wait. Eunbi, you don’t have to raise your voice like that. I—I didn’t lie to you. It’s for real, I’m not lying.  It—it’s just, I—I’m—I forgot that I don’t have my car with me, my car at workshop since yesterday. That’s all”

“Then why you don’t call me? You should’ve let me know so I can help you!”

“I was about to call you, but look. It’s run out of battery. I can just waiting for a cab at the bus stop front there”

“It’s dangerous waiting a cab at this time. No need to wait for cab, give me your address let me send you off”

“’No!—no—I mean thanks but no Eunbi. I can go back home by myself, you should go back and rest yourself. You are not even supposed to work today. It’s a tough day for you”

“Yewon”

“I told you, I want to protect you. Now let me to protect you, it’s okay for me. I’m used to it, it’s not tough at all. Just rest and relax and don’t say anything because I don’t want to listen. Just give me your address”

Here she is with her protect words again. I don’t really get it. I don’t know what to answer her. There’s a lot of words that I want to spill and ask her but I’m not sure when or where I could start. When I start dozing off, Eunbi already step on the accelerator. I’m just too exhausted from everything, the paperwork is drained my energy so much. I don’t even have any energy to put the seat belt on, and it’s Eunbi who help me to buckle it.

What a consider friend I have here.

“Sojung texted me. She said she is sorry to you” Eunbi suddenly said, breaking the silent between us.

“It’s—it’s alright. She don’t have to feel sorry. It’s my fault”

“It’s not your fault. They will be okay, it will only take few days for them to get better”

“But I think—“

“They will be okay. Don’t think too much about them. I just need talk to Sojung later. They always being like this, so you don’t have to worry. It’s just I never thought that Sojung never let Eunha eat anything that she want. That scarecrow seriously, she should know that her short girlfriend love foods so much!”

“I—I guess so”

Then the silent engulfing us once again. If I was sleepy and exhausted few minutes ago, now I suddenly feel fresh. Out of sudden I want to talk with Eunbi who I guess already in her good mood. She just keep talking about the couple with a smile plastered on her face and sometime chuckle a little. She always said that she is proud for Eunha and yet humiliating the latter for having a tall girlfriend as girrafe. Giraffe, scarecrow. I chuckle. If Sojung heard her, both of them will argue again.

“Bunny and Giraffe. What a weird combination, but still they still look great together for me” Eunbi said. Proudly.

“Eunbi”

Suddenly I have a courage to speak. Actually I have a few thing that I want to know from her. I tried to ignore it but it can’t. It makes something inside me dying to know about it.

“C—can I ask something?” She just humming at me still focusing her eyes on the road. Looking at her smiling and seems in her really good mood make me have a confident to ask her.

“About—about the call few—few days ago?”

“What call?”

“You—you know, at that late night—we talked”

“We—we talked? On the phone? At the midnight?” I can see her face suddenly change into an expression that I don’t know. So she really don’t remember about it. We are talked like two hours on the phone but I guess she don’t remember it. Why would I putting a hope on this. She’s drunk Yewon. Suddenly I feel stupid for having a dumb thought inside my mind.

“N—no. Sorry, I was—I was lost in my thought and remember about someone. I—I mean the call—we didn’t call at the midnight—I was wrong. Sorry Eunbi”

“Ahh~ Okay. I—I thought we are talked on the phone. It must be weird for us to on the phone with each other” She say friendly and goes silent again.

I have no words. I don’t want to talk about it anymore. It’s not like Eunbi will remember it. I want to go back home faster. Why the road to my apartment seems too far? Suddenly I feel like want to get upset. I feel mad, but it will be totally nonsense to get mad in front of Eunbi. She might think I’m crazy.

“Thank you for the ride Eunbi. Drive safely”

“You’re welcome. Go inside now, I will just go after see you enter the lift” Eunbi said, with a smile on her face.  I couldn’t help but to smile back to her, even though how upset I am. I bid a good bye to her and turn my back, start walking towards my apartment. I didn’t look back, because I know Eunbi still waiting for me to entering the lift but after a few step her voice make me halt my step and turn back to her.

“Good night, Yewonnie” She raise her hand bidding me a good bye with a smile still on her face not knowing what should I do, I just smile and bid her a good bye too, raising my hand to her. Awkwardly. Few second after that, she close her car window and drive away from my place.

I step inside my apartment slowly, still thinking about the possibility that I just heard from Eunbi’s words. Yewonnie? But I thought she didn’t remember about it. Why did she called me like that? I she actually remember it?

“Stop being nonsense Yewon! There’s no way she will remember it!”

That’s right. There’s no way Eunbi will remember it. Maybe she just having a really good mood just now, that is why she call me like that. I should just stop thinking nonsense. But if she really remember it then that is glad. Even just for a little it will be good for me, I guess.

“You crazy Yewon”

“Oppa? You know that I’m a girl right? I mean I am a grown up woman right?”

“No you are not. You are still a baby in my eyes”

“Oppa! I’m serious!”

“I’m serious too”

“Hey what is it? Talk to me, you know your oppa is a good listener right? Especially for you?”

“I think I’m going crazy. I don’t think this is my own self. Oppa, I’m a woman right?”

“Of course you are woman? Why?”

“I think I have a strange feeling. Here inside me, my heart, my heartbeat, there’s something. I—I mean, my whole life has been strange and totally weird for the whole time. I’m a woman but I’m having a strange feeling about it”

“Okay…. I don’t get it? You are being weird for sure”

“I mean, what is that feeling oppa? There’s some girl—I mean a woman. She make me attracted to her. I me—I mean her, she always make me want to look at her and whenever I did, there’s something inside me, which is I don’t know what it is. I—I don’t like whenever she mad or having bad mood but then, there’s something inside me telling that she is actually cute whenever she mad. I was scared to death whenever she start talking, but as time goes by, something inside me want to listen to her voice every second. I’m not used whenever she look at me especially when she look straightly to me. I feel uncomfortable but at some point, all that I want is her to only have her attention to me. Not at something or anyone else. I don’t get it. What’s with me?”

“And here, now again, I started talking about her,… my heartbeat. It’s something. There’s something tickle inside me. When she smile, I think she make the whole world stop. I mean my—my own world. Her smile was attractive. She’s beautiful oppa. Even it’s just her finger, it’s still beautiful. I mean how come someone being such a perfect in this world. You told me, nobody is perfect but why do I think that your words was lie to me for the whole time?”

“Here—Here again. My heartbeat. It doesn’t want to stop—no I mean—it’s doesn’t want to stop beating like this every time I think about her.

“Well that’s a lot of thing for you to tell me. Love. It’s love”

“Wh—what do you mean? Oppa! I clearly told you that I am a woman! I think I told you it’s ‘HER!’ just now!”

“Yeah. Still, my answer it is all because of love. You are falling in love. Obviously. TO HER”

“Oppa! I’m not insane and I’m definitely not sick!”

“Of course you are not”

“Then? What’s with that crap?!”

“What crap?”

“That you telling me?! You tell me that I fell in love with her?! I don’t want to play with your joke now! Not when I need you to tell me your thoughts!”

“Hey kiddo. I’m telling you the truth. You are falling in love with her. Yeah! It’s Her and you are woman. There’s nothing wrong falling in love with same gender. Love, it’s not looking for a gender”

“Oppa, I’m not into woman. You know that”

“Says the one who attracted and want all attention from specific woman”

“No. I don’t think it is. I have heard enough from you”

“One day, you will find yourself an answer that you want. I think I’ve told you the exact answer but seems you don’t want to trust me. One thing that I just want you to know, anything, everything that you felt right now. That is what I felt when met my wife. The only different thing here is, it’s you and that woman that you madly in love with, yet you don’t refuse to understand it. You are falling in love my beloved sister. And yeah, I can’t wait to see the woman who make my straight lovely sister being like this. Let me meet her in future”

“Yewon-ah, it’s been three days since Sojung come to office, do you know what happen to her?” Eunha ask me innocently. I guess she didn’t know about her words few days ago and I don’t want to tell her about it. I’m scare that I might make the situation worse than it is. When I’m about to answer her, Eunbi suddenly appear from behind us, starled me and Eunha.

“Three days huh. And you just ask about Sojung….like today?” Eunbi say, make Eunha rolled her eyes to her childhood best friend.

“At least I’m still asking about her. She make me sick already, leaving me with a lot of unfinished work”

“Well then, serve you right. Who told you to leave me with Yewon doing all the paperwork last Tuesday?”

“Is she upset with me? Why would her? I’m the one who should upset with her, for not giving me my favorite food!” Eunha whined.

There’s no words I can say to her, as I think it will be better for me to not saying anything. Eunbi may know what she should say to Eunha, since both of them know each other too well. Sojung really can’t be reach for these past day. Nor Eunbi and I can reach her. Not to mention Eunha, her own girlfriend. Seems like she shutting out everyone and it really make me worry. Remembering her sad face that day make me worry even more.

Three of us leave the office early than usual. Eunbi decide for us to go to Sojung’s and she told me to tag along, saying that I could be bored at home if I go back early. And her point is really taken, since I don’t really feel want to go back to my apartment at this hour.

“This is weird. Sojung isn’t like this before” Eunbi say with her worry tone as I take a sit inside her car. Since my car still at the workshop, I’m going with Eunbi while Eunha, well she don’t want to leave her precious new motorbike at the office parking lot.

“May—maybe she have something urgent to do”

“Sojung isn’t like this whenever they argue before. She will not gonna disappear for just some food argument”

“I thi—I think, it’s because something—you know—actually that day—umm”

“What is it, Yewon?”

“Well—that day actually, Sojung heard Eunha—I didn’t realize she was following me and Eunha to the rooftop—and Eunha was really upset that time, she cried—and she said that she—reg—she regret dating Sojung back then”

 “She said that and Sojung heard her?!!”

“Yea—yeah”

“Did she know?! I mean did Eunha know that Sojung heard her??Ahh, never mind. Since that bunny being clueless she surely don’t know about it”

“I—I tried to tell her that but—I’m sorry. I should’ve let Eunha know. It’s my fault” I think it’s really my fault for not letting Eunha know about that, but then Eunbi’s words saying that it’s isn’t my fault make feel a little bit relief.

Eunbi didn’t let out any words after that and just continue her driving. Actually there’s still one thing I want to ask her since few days ago. I tried to just forget about it but I can’t. It bothered me for some reason that I don’t really know what kind of it.

“Can—can I ask you something?”

“What is it?”

“Eunh—Eunha said you—you have dated before? And—and—she said that is her reason why—why she dated Sojung back—back then”

I shouldn’t ask her that question at the first place. If I know Eunbi will suddenly stop the car just like that in the middle of highway, I will think about my question to her again. Thankfully there’s no car passing by, so I thought it is safe for both of us from getting any accident.

“Eunha told you what?”

“No—nothi—“

“Tell me properly”

“She said—she—“

“So she told you about Yenni?”

“Yenn—Yennie?”
