Chapter 6

Sweets to the Sweet

Before the chapter starts, I just want to make sure all you beauties know. In Tennis scoring, 'Love' is in place of Zero, and the scores go Love -> 15 -> 30 -> 40 -> 45 -> YOU WIN GOOD FOR YOU.

Sorry for boring you, my pretties. On to da story!

   Wednesday, November 17th
   2:00 p.m.
   JYP Ent. Tennis Court.

     Twack.

Gongchan just loved tennis. The repetitive motions, the constant sound of the ball against the rackets and the floor. The running back and forth to chase a fast-moving target. He loved every aspect of it.

     Twack.

Smiling to himself, Gongchan let this ball fly past his racket... But not without making it look believable. He enjoyed playing tennis with Suzy, and she was an ace at it, but both Suzy and Gongchan knew that the latter was just more talented and skilled. Suzy and Gongchan also knew that beating Suzy wasn't his goal. His goal was to get the captain onto the court.

"And that's game point to Suzy!" Jinyoung announced, pointing to Suzy and acting as a "stand-in ref" for the game. "Gongchan, you lost horribly... 45 - Love both times. I thought you said you were good! It doesn't look like it." Jinyoung teased. Taking the offered racket from Suzy, Jinyoung took his place on the court opposite Gongchan. "You ready to see what a varsity captain can do, pup?!" The older male called.

Bring it on.

Smirking to himself, Gongchan answered with a swift nod to his hyung, followed by a twirl of his new carbonfibre racket. "Let's see what you can do."

     Twack... Twack... Twack...

"Point, Gongchan!" Suzy exlaimed, holding her arm up on Gongchan's side of the court to signal that he scored a point against Jinyoung.

   Score:

15 - Love   Lead: Gongchan

    Twack... Twack... Twack...

   "Another point, Gongchan!"

   Score:

30 - Love   Lead: Gongchan

This is unbelieveable... Jinyoung quickly thought, panting as he tried to recover his breathe. He lost to Suzy, but he's playing against me like he's been playing all his life. He returns every serve, every counter... He's unstoppable...

"Your serve..." Jinyoung pants, bunting the ball over the net to Gongchan who gladly accepts it.

"You sure you want to give me the serve before the set's even over?" Gongchan laughed, obviously aware that he's wearing down his hyung so easily.

"Yeah... Yeah I'm sure. This will only be a one set match." Jinyoung responded, still panting a little. "Come on, serve it up."

All Gongchan could give as a response was a brief laugh. Tossing the ball in the air, Gongchan's grunt and the twack of the ball echoed across the court.

   "Hyah!"

     Twack.

, this kid's got a power-serve! Jinyoung thought quickly, scrambling to chase after the ball.

     Clang... Thud.

   Score:

40 - Love   Lead: Gongchan

Baro, Suzy, and Gongchan all bust out laughing as Jinyoung fell down chasing the deep serve that Gongchan gave to the older male.

"Po.... Point, Gongchan!" Suzy exclaimed, her laughter breaking up her speech.

"Jeez, Jinnie! I've... I've never seen someone beat yer so badly at tennis!" Baro called, hints of his laughter still plaguing his speech as well. "I thought you were supposed to be the captain!" Teasing Jinyoung was Baro's favorite pastime.

"Shut up!" Jinyoung snapped, defending himself, "you try playing him and tell me how easy it is!" Turning back to his new friend, he made a motion to the ball now in Gongchan's hand. "Serve it up. This time, I'll make you pay."

"Heh... Alright, whatever you say love." Gongchan called back mockingly. He was having a good time, even it was a little bit at Jinyoung's expense.

   "Hyah!"

     Twack.

Here it comes... Jinyoung thought, steeling himself and predicting the balls movement flawlessly.

      Twack... Twack... Twack.

  Score:

45 - Love   Lead: Gongchan

"Damn it! How do you do that?!" Jinyoung was getting seriously frustrated. How did this... this kid manage to best him at every response?! Breathing out his frustrations, he discarded his misguided anger and short-comings, honing in his focus on the match and drowning out the teasing from his life-long friend and his snappy business partner.

Gongchan wiggled his finger back in forth, in a gesture that implies that he can't just tell his skill. "You know that a wise man never reveals his secrets. How would I be a good player if I just gave all my opponents the edge?" Gongchan teased. This was really fun, and he wasn't about to let it end.

"Serve it." Jinyoung ordered, his expression blank and his eyes fierce. He was ready to do battle on the court.

"Hnn... Hyah!" Gongchan grunted as he served the ball, secretly holding back so the older male could at least score one point against him.

   Twack... Twack... Twack...

"Jinyoung scored a point?" Suzy seemed puzzled. Why would Gongchan let anyone besides Suzy score a point him? She knew that when he was playing seriously or trying to show off, he never missed the ball, but this time his racket went right over it.

  Score:

45 - 15   Lead: Gongchan

Throwing his fist into the air, Jinyoung let his excitement show a little too much.

"Yeah! Hell yeah! Finally, I scored a point!" Jinyoung exclaimed, extremely proud of and please with himself.

His trio of friends couldn't help but burst out laughing, with Baro even falling to the ground, holding his stomach. Needless to say, this caused Jinyoung to start laughing with Gongchan and Suzy laughing even harder due to the fall of Baro. Once their laughing fit was over, they regrouped and hit the locker room of the indoor tennis court that JYP Entertainment owned. Well, the court that Suzy persuaded her parents to have added to the grounds of the company for the "leisure of the employees" or something. Suzy and Gongchan knew that it was actually so the latter would always have a place to practice.

Reaching the lockers, Gongchan couldn't help but glance over when Jinyoung took off his shirt. His face flushing a deep scarlet, he instantly peered away. Noticing this, Jinyoung thought it best to tease the boy.

"What's up, pup?" Jinyoung said, waltzing over to the younger boy and warpping his arm around Gongchan's shoulder. "You know, you played pretty spectacularly out there."

Chuckling nervously and his face flushing an even deeper shade of scarlet, he tripped over his first words.

"Y-you didn't play too bad yourself. What team are you apart of, for them to take such a captain?"

"Actually, the varsity tennis team at SNU. My family is friends with the head coach there, but that doesn't mean I didn't work hard to become captain. I mean, I am in my senior year there." Jinyoung explained, working his hands in a motion like he was holding a racket again and hitting a ball lightly. Not to mention the sound effects.

Upon hearing the anagram for the university he goes too, he finally figured out where he knew Jinyoung from. Spinning around, he pointed at Jinyoung. Not in an accusing way, more of a 'I want my point emphasised' kind of way.

"So that's where I know you from! You were there when I went to try out for the varsity team, but both you and the head coach that varsity isn't for lower classmen." Gongchan, a twinge of frustration in his voice, but also a hint of something else. Disappointment? Jinyoung couldn't place it. "In fact, you wouldn't let me even try out." The flush not completely out of his face, a playful smirk appeared on his face. "So how does it feel to be beat by a lower classman that didn't even make the team?"

Realizing his mistake and sighing, he walked over to the locker that he had put his stuff in, pulled out his phone, and punched in a number. Baro came up from behind Gongchan and clasped his hand over the latter's mouth, Suzy-style.

That's twice this has happened today. Gongchan groaned inwardly.

"Shhhh, little pup," Baro whispered in his ear, "if he's doing what I think he's doing, you'll want to stay quiet."

Gongchan, knitting his brows together in confusion, just nodded. All he could catch was bits and pieces as his heart started to pound in his ears, almost being forced to watch Jinyoung stand in one spot, shirtless, almost on display for Gongchan. Why was his heart racing? It's not like he hasn't seen attractive shirtless men before. In fact, he preferred it. He's only had one girlfriend before, and that didn't end too well.

"Mhm... Yeah. Coach, he's a great player. How great? Well, he beat me... Well, we kind of called it quits. The final score? 45 - 15, his favor." Jinyoung continued this back and forth with 'Coach' for another few minutes, which didn't bother Gongchan at all, especially since Baro decided he didn't have to keep Channie quiet anymore and went to go for a quick shower because he could. Gongchan always kept a locker filled with emergency clothes in case something happened, and Baro was just his size.

Staring at Jinyoung and waiting till he looked at Gongchan, the younger boy mouthed the words 'Who is it?', followed by a finger in response telling him to wait.

"Uh-huh. Okay. Thanks again, Coach." Taking the phone from his ear and pressing the End Call button, he put the phone back in the locker.

"So who was that?" Gongchan inquired almost immediately, his head tilting slightly with the question.

Thinking the sight of Gongchan with his head tilted adorable, Jinyoung couldn't help but giggle a little. "It was the coach, pup. You're on the team now."

Gongchan's eyes widened and lit up, letting Jinyoung see what seemed like he was looking a beautiful starry night sky.

"Wow, really?! Oh wow, thanks so much!" Gongchan exclaimed, leaping up from his seat and hugging the still-shirtless Jinyoung. Once he realized what he's doing, he quickly disengaged from the older male, blushing. Both their hearts were pumping furiously, but Jinyoung disregarded it and just laughed, pinching Gongchan's cheek.

   "It's no problem, pup."
