The Silent Boy

The next morning, Sana woke up, she glanced on her left, but Chaeyoung wasn't there. She checked the bathroom, but it was empty. She then got out of the room to find Chaeyoung sleeping, laying his head on the side of his mother's casket. She shook Chaeyoung's body.

"Take a bath, Chaeng." Sana breathed.

She then went to prepare Chaeyoung's toiletries and clothes for him. He took them and entered the bathroom.

She then put the guest book and markers on the table, she put variety of snacks and fruits on the tables, that had been set up, for the visitors. A box was put on the table as well, for visitors to put condolences money in.

After Chaeyoung was done, she started showering. Chaeyoung headed to the casket again, still couldn't believe that his mother had left him. He just watched his mother in despair, not wanting to forget any detail about his mother, tears fell from his eyes.

After Sana was done, she tapped Chaeyoung's hands gently.

"Let's eat something, Chaeng." Sana softly said.

Chaeyoung nodded and they drove to the nearest restaurant.

They both decided to eat some porridge that morning. Both not having the appetite to eat, but forced themselves to eat them anyway, because they knew they needed it.

When they came back to their room in the funeral home, the door was taped with a note that said, 'Everything has been moved to the 6th floor'

Then they quickly ascended to the 6th floor. They were shocked to see that all the rooms were merged together and there were tons of wreath flowers outside of the room. Basically, the whole floor was booked for them.

Sana and Chaeyoung got inside and saw a young man, ordering tons of people to set more tables and chairs and put snacks and fruits. There are 2 huge screen projectors on both sides of the room, with pictures of Jihyo, that work like a slideshow.

The young man finally noticed Sana and Chaeyoung and approached them.

"Oh hello, Are you visitting, or?" The man asked.

"Who are you?" Sana asked him.

"Ah, let me introduce myself, My name is Son Seungwan. Jihyo was my girlfriend and you are?" The man replied.

Upon knowing that the man standing in front of her was Chaeyoung's father, who abandoned her friend and Chaeyoung. Sana slapped the man. Chaeyoung watched in shock.

"How dare you, show up after all these years?" Sana growled.

Chaeyoung had never seen Sana this angry.

"You have every right to be angry. I was young and foolish, but I've changed now." Son Seungwan breathed, while still holding his stinging cheek.

Then his gaze fell upon the boy, who was currently hiding behind the woman, who slapped him.

"Is that boy, my son?" He faintly asked.

Chaeyoung had always wondered, who his father was, what did he look like, was he thinking of them? He asked his mother one time, but she ended up crying her eyes out, so after that he never asked her again, but now that his father was standing in front of him, he didn't know whether he was ready to face his father, or not. He decided to check the bedroom inside. He checked one room and saw his suitcase. He just locked the door and laid on the bed, thinking deeply.

Sana was still glaring at the man.

"Listen carefully, I will take full custody of Chaeyoung, not you. Jihyo would want that. I've been taking care of Chaeyoung ever since he was little. I know more about him than you. You, just do him a favor, and stay away from his life." Sana fumed.

"No" Seungwan spat.

"He's my son. He will live with me." The man announced.

"Not gonna happen at all, he's coming with me." She spat and left the man.

"Chaengie, Chaengie" she called him and knocked on the door.

But Chaeyoung refused to open the door.

"Chaengie, it's me, will you let me in, please?" Sana softly pleaded.

After awhile, Chaeyoung let Sana in. Trails of tears were visible on the boy's cheeks. She closed the door and laid on the bed, holding Chaeyoung close to her.

"Don't worry, Chaeng. You don't have to face him, if you don't want to. You would want to stay with me, right?" Sana asked Chaeyoung, assuringly. She slightly pushed Chaeyoung to look at him, in the eyes. Chaeyoung nodded.

He got up to write a note on the bedside table, 'You have to make sure it happens'

"I'll try my best, Chaengie" Sana soothed.

Sana pulled Chaeyoung  and hugged him while laying down on the bed, kissing his crown.

"Everything will be okay, I'm here with you" she soothed.

Soon many people visited Jihyo, in respect to Son Seungwan, as CEO of Son's corp. Jihyo's coworkers and Boss also came, their neighbors, Ms. Bae, also came to visit. Chaeyoung expected one specific person to visit, but of course she never visited. She was probably busy going on dates with her boyfriend.

Until one day before they were going to bury Jihyo, an old couple visited. The young CEO quickly recognized them. He approached them.

"Auntie, Uncle, welcome in, have a seat." He welcomed them.

Chaeyoung watched these people with furrowed eyebrows.

After that they were seated.

"So, how have you been all these years, auntie and uncle?" Son Seungwan asked them.

"We're trying to cope" the old lady answered. She started tearing up.

"She was my one and only daughter" she choked. The old man held her hand to soothed her.

"We really regret everything" she said again.

Upon hearing this, Chaeyoung started to understand. These were the people that sent his mother away, when they heard that his mother was pregnant. Chaeyoung rose from his seat, approached them and pointed to the door, showing an angry reaction.

The old lady looked at Chaeyoung in shock.

"Oh, is this our grandson?" The old lady asked in delight.

The old lady was about to carress his cheek, when he slapped her hand away. He stomped his feet angrily and pointed to the door.

Sana came to the rescue.

"I'm gonna have to ask both of you to leave" Sana ordered.

"They're Jihyo's Parents" the young CEO pointed out.

"Shut up" she silenced him.

"Please leave" Sana repeated.

The old lady stood up. She approached Chaeyoung.

"Dear, let us..." the old lady tried to reason, but Chaeyoung pushed her. She fell down.

The young CEO bellowed angrily, "CHAEYOUNG"

Sana looked at the scene in shock. Chaeyoung had never been violent before.

The old man, angered by the scene, quickly helped the old lady.

"Let's just leave." He said angrily.

"No,no, no," the old lady stubbornly refused, but the old man dragged her away anyway.

"Just because you're angry, doesn't mean you can push people like that, especially when she's your own grandmother" the young CEO barked, while lifting Chaeyoung's chin up.

Chaeyoung began to tear up. He pushed his father and locked himself in the bedroom.

Sana gently knocked on Chaeyoung's room door, "Chaengie, please let me in"

Chaeyoung opened the door and let Sana in. The latter laid on the bed and held him, carressing his back.

"I know you were angry, but you know it's wrong to be violent, right?"

Chaeyoung still cried, it would've been loud, if he didn't have selective mutism.

They just stayed in that position, with Chaeyoung crying his eyes out.

He was partly disappointed in himself for letting his anger got the best of him, regretting his action and brokenhearted because the first time his father talked to him, he was scolding him.

Chapter 14: Mr. Son needs to be extra patient. Chaeyoung has gone through too much. I don't really blame Mina for not coming. How would she have known Jihyo passed away?

This needs a sequel. It really breaks my heart when Chaeyoung apologize for not being normal and Jihyo cries. Nothing hurts a parent knowing your child is being bullied and being unable to do anything. What Mr. Son did was cruel. It seems like he didn't care. He didn't reach out for the past 12 years and now he came out of nowhere to snatch Chaeyoung away. He should've continued to let Chaeyoung keep in touch with Sana as that's what's familiar to him. Although he's Chaeyoung's father, he never really played a role so now he gotta get to know him from the beginning. Jihyo means everything to Chaeyoung, Sana can never replace her but at least she's always been around
