Transferring

Min was drinking her coffee when her phone rang. She looked at the caller ID and saw it was her boss, Park Jin-young.

“Yes, boss?” she answered her phone.

“Min I have some news for you. You will be transferring to Korea to investigate a case. Your airplane ticket should come today any moment now I suspect.”

Ding-dong.

“Yea, I think it just did.” Min said as she walked to the door and took the package from the mail man.

“I thought so. You will be leaving tomorrow so hurry up and pack your belongings. You are needed over here ASAP.”

“Alright, boss.” Min sighed as she hung up the phone. She had to move AGAIN because of her job. She didn’t really mind moving, but sometimes she likes to stay attached to one place.

She went to her room and packed her belongings. When she finished packing her eyes wandered around the room and stayed on a small picture frame that was on her dresser. It was the picture of her parents and her at the playground when she was 7.

They were so happy then.. until her family was torn apart. Flashbacks started to play in her head as she remembered what had happened that day on her birthday.

Her mother and father were talking in the kitchen, mumbling something Min could not here. She tried to read their lips, but she still couldn’t make out what they were saying. Min decided to ignore it and continued watching Dragon Tales.

After what had seemed to be half an hour that had passed, her father and mother walked into the room together and told Min to go to her room. Min obeyed not knowing why her parents had asked her to do so. When she was sitting on her bed, Min’s mother came in and asked Min if she wanted to play hide and seek.

Before Min could run and hide, her mother told her sternly, “Min you have to stay strong ok? Mommy and Daddy will always love you.”

Min nodded and ran to her hiding spot, not seeing that her mother watched with tears in her eyes as her daughter ran farther, and farther away from her.

Her mother already knew where Min was, but pretended not to know for a reason. Min would always hide in her closet because it was comfortable and quiet in there for her.

When Min saw her mother walk towards her hiding spot, Min thought she would be caught so she backed up towards the back of her closet and hid behind some shoeboxes.

Min waited there for a long time, but the closet door did not open. She got tired and went to open the closet door to find that it did not budge. She tried shaking the doors faster, but all she could hear was a clinking noise from the outside.

The closet doors were locked, yet Min did not know why they were locked. She began to cry and yell for her omma and appa, but nothing answered her back. It stayed like that for a while until her neighbors came in and broke the lock on the closet.

Her flashback stopped and Min was back to reality. Her jeans were soaked with her tears. She did not hate her parents for they had done to her, she knew her parents had a reason for it all.

It has been 13 years since that incident, yet Min hasn’t found any evidence as to why her parents did so. She promised herself that someday she’ll find them again and ask them why they had done that.

Min stood up and wiped her tears with her hand and left the room. She walked towards the small picture frame and placed it inside her suitcase. Even though they aren’t with her most of the time, Min wants to believe that they are.

With that, Min brought her suitcases outside and locked her apartment door behind her. Who knows how long she’ll be away from America this time. After all, she is a high class spy.
