Breaking World ~ Judgement - Chapter 6
Breaking World ~ Judgement"Dongwoon," said Sunggyu recognising the face. He pulled away as Dongwoon stepped back. There was a moment of awkward silence as they stood facing each other.
"I'm sorry," Sunggyu apologised. "I thought you were..."
"You miss him right? I understand," said Dongwoon. "I saw the light was still on in here so I came to check. You shouldn't sleep in the study."
"I was just tired," said Sunggyu.
"You should rest boss, it's late," said Dongwoon as he left the room.
Sunggyu slumped back down in his seat. He closed his eyes for a few moments, remembering what had just happened. "Woohyun, I think I'm losing my mind."
The nurse entered the patient's room the next morning to find him wide awake and sitting in bed. She noticed the flowers in the vase were the same ones from yesterday.
"You're up early today, Myungsoo," she said as she checked his medical chart. Poor thing, she thought. Maybe it's because his guardian angel never showed up last night.
"There's a patient in room 305, do you know what happened to him?" Myungsoo asked.
The nurse seemed surprised at his question. "I'm not supposed to tell you this so lets just keep this between us, okay?"
Myungsoo nodded.
"He was shot," she said. "He was in a critical condition by the time they brought him in. The bullet was extracted but they don't know when or if he will ever wake up. His friend took the news very badly. He had a breakdown and had to be sedated. He must've been someone important since he had all these bodyguards with him."
"Does his friend visit him often?" asked Myungsoo.
"I don't know," she replied with a shrug. "We were all told to keep away from that room unless specifically called for."
Myungsoo thoughts were racing as he tried to figure out how things turned out this way. "How long has he been like this?"
"Hmmm, come to think of it, he was brought in the same night you were," she replied. "How did you both end up with such wounds? Must be some crazy violent people out there."
Sunggyu walked along the street, looking like a fine businessman when a little boy running in his direction, bumped into him. The little boy stumbled back and fell to the ground.
"I'm so sorry," said Sunggyu as he bent down to help the little boy up. "Are you alright?"
The little boy nodded as he raised his head. Sunggyu smiled when he recognised the little boy. The little boy's expression lit up when he saw Sunggyu and leaped forward to hug him.
"Shin, what are you doing here by yourself?" asked Sunggyu.
"Daddy taking me on rides," replied the little boy.
"Where is your daddy?" asked Sunggyu looking around.
"Shin!" A voice called out as they saw a man running towards them. "I told you not to run."
"Daddy, look!" said the Shin pointing at Sunggyu.
"Mr Jung," greeted Sunggyu, bowing his head.
The man returned the same greeting. "Mr Kim, we haven't seen you at the care centre for awhile. Are you not working there anymore?"
"I've gone back to taking over my father's business," replied Sunggyu. "As his son, I can't let it go to ruin."
Mr Jung nodded. "I see."
"Shin must be happy that you have time to spend with him. Aren't you usually busy with work?" asked Sunggyu.
"Daddy promised," said Shin happily. "He's a super policeman now."
Sunggyu looked at Mr Jung, surprised. "You're a policeman?"
Mr Jung nodded. "I was promoted recently so I promised Shin I'd take him to the theme park."
"Congratulations," said Sunggyu. "If you don't mind me asking, what have you been promoted to?"
Mr Jung smiled. "I've been given the role of Superintendent."
