Chapter Nineteen
Spectrum {[Apply Closed]}Hope you all enjoy this rather boring filler chapter, also, I've finally decided what applicants I'm going to pick...
By the end of the week, the boys all looked completely exhausted – the rehearsal on the actual stage they’d be performing on the following day held low energy, sure the boys were dancing and singing the songs like they were supposed to be performed, but their expressions held no energy and showed their exhaustion. As soon as the rehearsal ended, the boys thanked the crew members who were working with them on the performance before exiting the stage and returning to the van in silence.
As soon as they climbed into the van, most of the boys were out – only a few were up, but they were slowly – ever so slowly, drifting off to sleep. Within mere minutes of driving all ten were getting much needed sleep despite how nervous they were and how worried they were about the performance the following day.
Once they arrived at the dorms, the managers woke them up and sent them all to bed – which they all willingly did since they all felt like their limbs were weighted down due to their exhaustion. As soon as the boys were in bed, the managers left to catch up on their sleep as well since the boy’s schedules were affecting them as well.
Later that night, the oldest member of Spectrum had woken up to hunger pains in his stomach and slipped out of the room and into the well –stocked kitchen moving around the room silently, preparing dinner – thinking that the other members would be tired as well, after all the hadn’t eaten since that morning before their final rehearsal – which was about eight or nine hours ago. Plus, he thought that he would have to wake them up eventually, because if they slept the whole day away, they wouldn’t sleep at night and that meant they’d be tired for the performance the following day – which was something they could not risk at this point in their barely existent careers.
Nearly half an hour later, the oldest member had finished up the meal and was moving around room by room, awakening the others and telling them about the food prepared– which was what had gotten the nine out of bed. If there hadn’t been food, they probably wouldn’t have bothered to get out of their rather comfortable beds because they were that tired.
“Thank you for the food,” chimed some of the members, others chimed “I’ll eat it well.”
As soon as those polite sentences were spoken, all ten dug into their food – devouring the surplus on the table, each male finally realizing just how hungry they had been. The room had been silent, up until they finished up the last crumbs. As soon as the food was finished off, Younghun dropped the bomb of how he made the dinner and in turn didn’t have to do the dishes. As soon as the oldest had stated that, the nine started playing games to decide who would be stuck with the job while the others would be able to relax – upon the ‘leaders’ orders, no one was to return to bed just yet – there was no specific reason as to why they couldn’t and he refused to give one. However, the boys stayed up anyway.
After the dishes were finished, all ten of the boys were lying around the living room watching television – some were rather quiet while others were loud. (Being the rather lazy author I am right now, I’m not going to go into specifics because I’m sure you know what characters I’m talking about).
As the conversation between the louder members continued, it changed into the subject of how they were feeling about the following day – about how it was the one day that would make or break their current careers in Spectrum. They all couldn’t help but to say that they were excited about the following day, but at the same time they were afraid of what was to come – not so much about what was to come during the showcase, but what was to come after it. They were also worried about the turn out the showcase – if they’d attract any attention, if they’d be able to impress the people there, if they’d be able to stand out in their performances.
The conversations continued later into the night, only to be cut off when they noticed that it was nearing midnight – they probably would’ve stayed up longer if they didn’t have an early morning the following day.
The following morning, they were woken up bright and early being taken to a salon to get their hair and makeup done for the first time ever – the company was really going all out on the showcase make up wise and hair wise, however, their stage outfits were casual clothes one would wear on a daily basis, their outfits were actually rather plain making it so that not one of them would attract more attention than the others appearance wise. They made it so that the boys would have to attract attention through their performances and not their appearances.
“Boys, as you know this is the day of your showcase, but it is also your final day of filming the show,” stated the managers, “Yes, you haven’t filmed in two weeks, but it’ll pick up again for today only – after all this is the thing you all had been working towards the whole show, so if we ended it without showing the showcase, the fans that you’ve gained would probably be outraged.”
The boys nodded in understanding – even the most talkative members had been silent – the nerves slowly growing within their stomachs.
“Anyway, now that you all are ready – we’ll be taking you all to the location of the showcase – sure it’s in the evening, but we need to do one last run through and then we have to get your make up finished up – since you all only have the light layer of it on,” stated the manager, again making the boys nod in understanding.
When the boys arrived at Everland, they looked around cautiously – taking in the sight of the amusement park that was already rather busy for a Saturday morning. As they looked around and saw the countless different people in the park, their nerves only seemed to get worse – even in those who were relatively used to performing in front of countless others.
“Andy decided that it would be too nerve wrecking for you all,” stated the managers, “So he decided to make both Teen Top and 100% perform before you.”
The ten looked at the manager in shock, his words only making their nerves worse, after all – who would want to perform after two already debuted groups, who were already making names for themselves – one already popular all across the globe and the other a group of raising stars?
“That makes us feel a lot better,” muttered Minhyun sarcastically.
The manager smiled bitterly, “I sure it must.”
After the manager’s words, the boys wondered around the park for hours after their sound check looking around at all the rides that they couldn’t ride – which was torture, there were a few that they did end up riding and in response gotten scolded by the stylists who had to redo their hair styles.
Finally, the time for the showcase arrived – well the time to get ready for it arrived and the boys were lead to the stage on which they were to be performing on, where they all went back stage to see that their company sunbaenim in both Teen Top and 100% waiting back stage with the some of the boys’ family members. Seeing as how both Teen Top and 100% were in the process of getting – the boys decided to turn their attention to their family members – if they were there.
Jhun had automatically moved to hug his noona and hyung-in-law, greeting both his niece and nephew as he did so.
Shin moved towards his mother and brother, who were standing beside Hoya, who had decided to come cheer on his best friend, knowing about the younger’s doubt about making it into the group.
Minhyun reluctantly moved towards his mother and two sisters who were apparently invited to attend the show by Andy or the managers. As soon as he arrived before his family members he got an earful of nagging from his mother for not really bothering to tell them about the final audition and something about the skinny jeans he was wearing but he had pretty much tuned the woman out when it came to the clothes he had been forced into by a rather scary stylist-noona.
As for Minseok, he looked around the room eagerly while remembering his mother’s promise to be at the performance – however, he felt disappointment fall over him as he only spotted his sister standing in a corner of the dressing room with his five year old brother, no sign of his mother. He moved towards them with a slight frown on his face, he was happy that they were there but it was just too disappointing to see that their mother hadn’t come – that she hadn’t kept her promise.
“Where’s mom?” questioned Minseok, silently hoping that the woman was just running late – hoping that she would just suddenly show up.
“Something came up,” stated Mi Young, her voice low and a bit sad – knowing that her oppa had really wanted to see their mother actually prove him wrong for once, “She wasn’t able to come.”
Minseok stared at her in disappoint, but his million watt smile appeared on his face again as he hugged the duo that had come, trying to hide his disappointment, “At least you guys are here.”
Chris went to his parents as soon as he saw them and had automatically hugged the duo who were now standing before him – he was a little sad not to see Alex with his parents, but he could understand why they didn’t want a barely over ten month old baby to a place like Everland – especially since the boy wouldn’t remember it when he grew older.
Sora – opposite of Min Seok – was overjoyed because his parents had kept their promises of coming to see the performance; even his hyung Yamato and sister Minjee had managed to make it to the performance as well. The conversation held with his family members helped him clear his mind of all the worries and fear that had gathered up in his brain the past two weeks – it helped him clear his mind so that he could focus on the performance and not the what-ifs.
Woojung had went to greet Minhyun’s mother and sisters before moving to his own little sister – who he was quite honestly, rather shocked to see by herself. However, upon talking to her, he decided that he was glad to have her there; however, he was worried about her being there alone and in turn asked Minhyun’s mother and sisters to keep an eye on her during the performance. The woman happily agreed.
Xue moved towards his parents as well, welcoming them with hugs. He then turned his attention to his younger sister and greeted her happily before turning his attention to his younger brother, who automatically latched onto the older male.
The magnae Jayden had happily greeted his parents as well and then went into a conversation with his twin Ethan – their conversation amusing their parents.
Minki, however, sat away from the others – off by himself, feeling slight jealousy towards the other members, seeing as how they all had some sort of family member there to support them while he had no one. A slight sigh slipped through his lips and the boy jumped as a hand landed on his shoulder – his eyes rose up from where they were staring at his feet and met the gentle eyes of the temporary leader, whose family had just exited the back stage area due to a tired four year old getting rather feisty. The younger looked at the elder in confusion, but the male simply smiled, ruffling his hair – almost automatically getting the boy’s mind off of his parents.
“Don’t worry,” stated Jhun, taking a seat next to the younger – not breaking their eye contact, even as the younger seemed to latch onto him, “No matter what happens today, whether you make it or you’re cut, keep your head positive and keep working hard towards your dream – no matter what your parents say – because if you don’t make this time, you will make it the next time – for sure.”
The younger smiled, thankful for his hyung’s words which had really cheered him up.
“Parents, family members, I know you want to stay and talk with your sons and brothers, but you all need to get out of here – they need to get ready for the performance – we let you stay as long as we possibly could,” stated the managers, ushering the families out after they hugged their sons/brothers, bidding them good luck on the performance. With that the tension returned to the room and the only thing running through the tens' minds was:
Who is going to make it?
