To Fyze who has been rather depressed and sad recently

Yukwon held an old fashioned bouquet of red roses, a dozen of them, and almost shoved it into Fyze’s face.

“I like you.” He managed to say without stuttering, although he had written a speech beforehand. In order not to waste his effort, he drew out a crumbled piece of paper from his pockets after the girl took the bouquet with coloured cheeks. Red flushed his face and neck, and with the paper in his sweaty hands, he began.

“Roses are red, violets are blue…” The girl burst into laughter, and Yukwon did too. “I’m kidding.” He smirked and cleared his throat. “In vain have I struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.”

“Plagiarist.” Fyze teased before biting her lower lip, “That’s a line from ‘Pride and Prejudice’.”

“Hmm… So let’s get things straight. Will you be my girlfriend?” He asked with a cunning grin. Fyze sighed, not knowing how to respond to his weird behaviour. She sighed again, fidgeting the coloured sheets of plastic wrapping the bouquet and making Yukwon giggle. After 30 seconds of contemplating, she nodded. Yukwon’s giggle stretched into a huge grin, spreading across his face almost reaching his ears.

This was how they started.

It would be an understatement to say Yukwon loved Fyze. He adored her. He was crazy for her. She was the milk to his latte, as weird as that sounded. Fyze loved him just as much, but the boy claimed that he loved her more. An “I love you” from Fyze would always be replied by an “I love you more babe” from the cheesy boy. Fyze didn’t even know where he got the cheesiness from – he seemed to have turned into a whole different person, although Fyze couldn’t deny that she loved this side of him too. Nonetheless, his sentence had always sent goosebumps all around Fyze’s upper arm.

“Shut up you grease monster!” She’d yell playfully, smacking away the hands snaking around her waist.

“Well, blame Park Kyung.” He’d make an excuse and pull her into a tight, suffocating hug, no matter how his girlfriend protested, kicked, punched and struggled while the two laugh their heads off.

When they were less violent and hyper, Yukwon liked to grab his guitar and serenade his girl with the most random songs in his head. Well, his choice of songs didn’t always please her, but at least it’d give the two of them a good laugh. I mean, who would serenade a girl with girl group songs cursing unfaithful boyfriends, or even one of Psy’s crazy party songs? Fyze liked it when he sang ballads or indie songs, though.

It’d been three years since the couple started dating, and their relationship was taken to the next level when Yukwon begged Fyze’s parents to let her live with him in a flat in the suburb last year.

As expected, the way he begged was hopeless. Fyze was more than surprised when she saw her parents nodding at the boy, hugging their stomachs as they laughed ‘til they were out of breath. They actually trusted the stupid boy, and they were the people who taught Fyze how to choose friends. Well, apparently, they’d taught her the wrong theory.

“I can see his love for our sweet heart. I mean, can you see how he looks at our little girl! Aww…”

With his bright smile plastered on his face, Yukwon lifted Fyze up in bridal style and spun her around, almost hitting the shocked girl’s head onto the door frame as he did.

“Idiot, stop that!” Fyze screamed but it was unheard.

Their cohabiting life went well despite the times filled with sudden recklessness of the boy, wanting to create some ‘surprises’ to ‘spice up’ their love life. Recklessness and crazy ideas gradually turned into romantic back hugs, cosy movie nights and literally ‘greasy’ cooking time. It wasn’t until today that the happiness flew out of the ‘door’.

Yukwon clung onto the door knob, sniffing his nose for the twentieth time already. He wiped his tears with his sleeves and used the other hand to bang on the door, desperately begging forgiveness and attention. He sobbed uncontrollably – almost like wailing – at the door like a child. “P-please, please forgive me Fyze. I love you. Please, l-let me in, Fyze. Please…”

On the other side of the door, Fyze leaned her back against the cold wood, sniffing her nose too, as tears flowed down her swollen cheeks.

“I’m sorry… It was a white lie okay? Believe me, Fyze…” He cried weakly as he continued banging on the door, shaking Fyze’s body on the other side. He moved away and slumped down against the wall next to him, panting and hiccupping. He drew a tiny navy box from the inside pocket of his jacket and flipped the lid open. ‘If only she knew.’ He spoke to himself miserably. Yes, he was with another girl today. Yes, they hung out – to buy this stupid ring. Unlike the usual Fyze, she surprised Yukwon by yelling at him nonstop and throwing him out of the flat before he had time to explain. He defended his girlfriend with the thought that she cared a lot about their relationship, but in fact, he honestly thought it was a bit over. She hadn’t been so irrational throughout their relationship.

He had to fix this.

Fyze opened the door slowly and quietly before she leaned out slightly to check on her boyfriend with a guilty look on her face. “Kwon-ah…” Yukwon looked up, panicked, and shoved the tiny box into his picket which did not fit.

“Aish…” He muttered to himself as he stood up clumsily from the floor. “Fyze…”

Fyze held back her tears as Yukwon called her name. Her heart ached at his broken appearance, yet, the box in his hands caught her attention. “You were gonna…”

“Yes.” The boy cut her off. “I… I had difficulties choosing a… ring so I asked Nana to come with me.” He finally had the time to confess. “I’m sorry… I’m so sorry. I could’ve chosen it myself.”

Tears welled up again in the girl’s eyes. She couldn’t differentiate whether those are tears of happiness or anger. Either way, her knees weakened and she squatted at the door, overwhelmed by the mixed feelings in her mind. Yukwon advanced towards her and helped her stand up.

“I love you. I love the way you smile, I love the way you get violent when I act like an idiot, I love the way you tease me sarcastically. Compared to you, I’m a flawed piece of… No there’s no way I’m going to add profanity in my proposal.” Fyze laughed although her face was decorated by pearly drops of tears.

“This is crazy.“ The girl added airily before the boy in front of her continued.

“Despite my stupidity, despite my tiny brain, despite my greasiness, despite every flaw in both my appearance and personality… Will you marry me?”

Fyze, will you marry Yukwon? :D
