This song is so hard...i don't like my own lyrics honestly....felt i had done much better works n now that really upsets me bcuz i feel like i couldn't make it better...and i kept changing the words back forth many times...
Anyway, back to this song Breath, Haze & Shadow...it has very abstract meaning and the lyrics feel like it's trying to describe sth intangible in a tangible way. normally i'd give up and move on...it's just that the song is so breathtakingly beautiful i'd love to do sth for it, and i thought ballad couldn't be that hard to be malay-fied right? (wrong) and also, having a meaty lyrics(albeit very vague and ambiguous) help to motivate me.
At first i didn't want to even include their pics or who sings which part...even making the lyrics are draining...i really don't need more headache...and i did felt kinda awkward...maybe i hadn't done such thing for awhile...since when i sub for title tracks i can use the mv/perf videos...and when i do for non idols naturally i don't use their pics too much(tbh...it's been many years since i even bother download idols' pics unless i'm working on a video, and i already found some moody shadowy night scenery pics for the video)...and idk....either i keep feeling awkward abt this group for some unknown reason or i just have gotten too old to care that much about putting these details...but...one of the reasons i want to do this is to do a small part to promote their song because i think they're pretty cool and is one of the few rare good ones left in kpop mainstream(even if i don't always vibe with their songs naturally), and the fact that they're still not as big as they should easily be adds to it. so even though i normally like even lesser popular groups, i would like to do a small part to support them from my corner....maybe i'm liking them more than i'd like to admit...they're pretty funny too whenever i watch them...it's just....i feel awkward to jump and declare a fan, unlike with many groups i confidently declare myself a fan, maybe it's the fact that they've already promoted for long and have their own following makes me feel like intruding...eh...idk...whatever...
but...because they're idols...it didn't feel right not to use their pics since, idols no matter how talented, still sells image partly...it's just part of what an idol is...so it didn't feel right to at least not use some pics to lure their potential new fans that could stumble to the vid...so yeah...i buckled up and got it done.
There's a part at the end where many eng translation sites/videos show as a different member's part but i just followed what i see from their fancams of this song's live perf....besides...it's those two members whose voice i sometimes got mixed up...while i'm very sure i won't be mistaken with the others.
Also the adlib/singing over each other parts...it might look confusing in the video...i tried my best....if that's not enough...well, too bad.
For all my struggles in the lines of the lyrics...refer to notes below.
Before we end, sharing some live performances cuz why not. NONE belongs to me. all credits to the channels that posted.
another one cuz we can't have too much of good stuff and ain't this setting and all just so pretty?
and...another one cuz i can.

For the translation here, i will just include from the link i shared, but when i made the Malay lyrics, i don't use the translation 100% and did my own translation to try understand better the words used and lyrics, but i don't keep notes of those since there are already sites doing eng subs for the song.

As the hour hand completes its circle
Hari telah pun lewat malam
(It's already late at night)
On the way back home again
Berjalan pulang, sama semalam
(Walking home, same as yesterday)
Why does this familiar street
Tapi mengapa jalan biasa
(But why does the usual street)
Feel somewhat strange today?
Seakan ku di dunia yang berbeza
(As if I'm in a different world)
Step by step, in this night where each step falls slowly
Selangkah, selangkah, berat ku melangkah
(One step, one step, I walk in heavy steps)
The sound of breathing settles in
Berdesah nafasku kian lelah
(The sound of my breathing getting more weary)
I wish everything would scatter in my sigh
Moga terlerai, hapus semua di desahan
(May it scatters away, vanish in the sigh)
**i think in malay 'keluhan' is used more to describe sigh, but i used desahan which describes the sound of breathing in pain
Every longing, all the fears
Semua dambaan dan keresahan
(All yearning and worries)
** yearning/longing is somewhat similar, and fear can direct translate to ketakutan but i feel the fear in this context is more about restlessness after checking the korean word, so i go that route...honestly i changed this line many times, not easy to find the right feeling
Like the mist that clears away when the morning comes again
Laksana kabut lalu berganti pagi
(Like a thick fog passing into morning)
**haze in malay directly is jerebu...but i honestly don't think that's the haze meant in the song...lol...kabus is fog...but kabut is like a thick disruptive fog so i used this one to match the meaning in the song
Tonight, I let out a sigh
Malam ku ini, rintih tak bertepi
(This night of mine, sigh endlessly)
**since 어리다 can mean to be filled with, i decided to use tak bertepi that suggests 'no end to something' or directly means 'with no edge', rintih is synonymous with keluh which describes sigh
Hoping it all disappears
Semoga ia pergi
(May it goes away)
**Now, i'm using may/moga/semoga to express wish since in speech it basically means wish in other word than the usual 'ku harap', and i used 'ia' to describe their woes even though in malay, ia is used for things, but since the song itself tried to describe the abstract feelings as something tangible i used 'ia' to show its tangibleness
In a heart written without moderation
Luah hati yang tiada sempadan
(Heart's expression/outflow that has no border/boundless)
Trying to remove the tangled knots
Ku cuba urai kusut simpulan
(I try to untangle the knots)
With a handful held tightly in my hand
Segumpal ku pegang, erat di genggaman
(A lump/handful I hold, tightly held in my fist)
I want to blow away this thread on thе street
Andainya aku bisa, pasti dah ku lemparkan
(If I could, I surely would have thrown it away)
**the word 버리다 can mean throw away/blow away/abandon so i kinda used my own translation here
I wish everything would scatter in my sigh
Moga terlerai, hapus semua di desahan
(May it scatters away, vanish in the sigh)
Every longing, all the fears
Semua dambaan dan keresahan
(All yearning and worries)
Like the mist that clears away when the morning comes again
Laksana kabut lalu berganti pagi
(Like a thick fog passing into morning)
Tonight, I let out a sigh
Malam ku ini, rintih tak bertepi
(This night of mine, sigh endlessly)
The untouchable heart and the unextinguished candle
Tak terluah kata, tak pudar di jiwa
(Unable to express words, unfaded in the soul/heart)
** this sound a lot different right? i used my own translation instead of the line above and adapted the lyrics to convey same feeling even with some different words, like no mention of heart but i used kata/words to mean what's in the heart
Because of futile hopes, woah-oh, oh-oh
Angan sia-sia, oh~
(Futile dream/imagination)
My long day's story without punctuation
Hariku yang umpama ayat tak bernoktah
(My day that is like a sentence without a full stop/period)
** the original lyrics used 마침표 which is a period/fullstop, so i followed original lyrics instead of the translation i refer to
Overflows with "however" and "still"
Cuma ada betah dan pasrah
(Only has endure/at ease and resigned/accept)
** okay now this line is the most different, am a lil sad cuz the original lyrics has a nice structure to by comparing their days to story words, but i couldn't use other punctuation in malay...it would sound weird and don't make sense...so i tried to understand the meaning of the lyrics,,,and i guess they're saying their endless days/concerns which is filled with excuses to not really have any resolution and to carry on...betah is not an easy choice since it's a word rarely used even in malay....but it rhymes nice with pasrah and it means to be at ease/endure so so i thought it could use to express the excuse, by enduring and by resigning to fate and whatever that happens...
I wish everything would disappear when I sigh (Oh, everything, I wish)
Moga semuanya hapus lesap di desahan (Oh andai)
(May everything vanish disappear in the sigh - oh may it)
Even the embarrassed feelings and the bitterness (Even the bitterness)
Segala aib dan kebencian (Lesaplah semuanya)
(All the shame and hatred - may it all disappear)
** 미움 refers to hatred that can derive from change of feelings rather than pure hatred, idk to explain...or a milder version of hate? idk...i checked a few sources...so i didn't use the 'bitterness' though it might be the overall meaning/feel...i use aib which in malay means shame/embarrassment from bad things, but it could also mean flaws and i guess it ties to the song meaning. i can't find other alternative word for benci to fit in the lines so yeah...benci is hate. i don't think there are many words in malay to describe it.
Like shadows cast in the white night (Cast in the white night, oh)
Bagaikan bayang di balik malam benderang (Di balik benderang)
(Like shadows over the bright night - over the brightness)
** i don't think we have much of a term for a night that isn't dark/white night...so yeah...malam kesiangan is a term to describe it in lyrical/poetic ways but we ain't got space for that, so benderang can means bright, usually used as 'terang benderang' but here, i cut it to fit and it still means the same
Tonight, I exhale a sigh
Malam ini ku merintih sendiri
(Tonight, I sigh by myself)
Hoping it all disappears
Semoga ia pergi
(May it goes away)
