Chapter Five
Seven Days
This will be just a filler chapter coz I want to make the fic a bit longer than I initially planned. ^^
Irene was the first one to open her eyes. And the first thing that came to her mind was Seulgi. As if it was the most natural thing to do, an urgent matter, she whipped her head almost immediately that she thought she’ll break her neck upon the hasty movement. She felt her body relax upon seeing the blonde girl sleeping soundly beside her in a curled up position, like a baby inside her mother’s womb. With the slightest move as possible, she faced the sleeping girl, a chance for her to admire Seulgi.
Her eyes traced Seulgi’s cat-like eyes which appeared to be just two lines parallel to each other with pretty long eyelashes, her button nose that gave a good addition to her pretty face, her soft pair of lips that was slightly ajar, and the bruises present on her face that didn’t much lessen the beauteousness, making Irene a little breathless just by merely looking at her.
A small smile crept up the raven without much effort that she couldn’t help but to stare a bit longer to the other girl, not until she jumped out slightly when the blonde suddenly talked with eyes still tightly shut.
“Quite a view, huh? Hyun, staring at a sleeping figure is somewhat creepy if anyone does see you.” Seulgi grinned widely before she opened her eyes, earning a slap from the girl. “Ha. You should stop flattering yourself, Seul. And I wasn’t even staring.”
“Okay. If you say so, Joohyun-ssi.” This time Kang Seulgi was staring at the older girl. Irene had to look away with her biting her lower lip with a dust of pink covering her cheeks. Seulgi’s grin was wider.
A shy Joohyun is such a cutie.
“You remember the day we first met?” Seulgi blurted out, out of the blue. She was seated across Irene who was busy indulging her strawberry sundae.
Irene looked up and Seulgi had to laugh at how clumsy she ate. The blonde had to reach for the other girl’s side lips to wipe away the sweet stain from it.
“Uh…yeah?” Irene was distracted at the way her friend’s finger brushed on her skin, sending waves of tingles rushing inside her stomach.
“That very moment, I’m fully decided to end my life.” Seulgi said nonchalantly as if it wasn’t a big deal at all. The raven stilled as her eyes widened at the random confession. “B-But you saved me that day. If it weren’t for you, I won’t be here eating sundae with you. You’re very confusing, Kang.”
Irene’s brows connected in bafflement. And Seulgi had to smile at how adorable Joohyun was when bothered.
“Why am I confusing?”
“How can you save someone’s life when you’re willing to give up your own? It doesn’t make sense at all. You shouldn’t care about me or any other’s life because you don’t even care about your life.” Irene placed the metal spoon on the table, suddenly losing her appetite. She pursed her lips while staring into Seulgi’s monolid eyes. Irene didn’t like Seulgi’s declaration even in the slightest ounce of her willpower. Hearing this kind of tragic conclusion from the woman she grew to like, pained her heart. She might not be sure of what’s blossoming in her heart but all she knew now was she’s the happiest when she was with the girl.
A moment of silence was spared before Seulgi could eventually formulate a sentence in her brain. One way or another, she couldn’t strike back to what the other had said after she made a strong point on that one. But she has to say something right?
“Seulgi. Why are you doing this to yourself? I can’t understand it at all. Where are you coming from? It’s not just about the bullies, yes?”
“I…”
Irene sighed and just crossed her arms. Deep down her soul, she knew that there was something more. She doesn’t want to force her friend into telling her but she needed to understand. How can this girl give up her life for no reason? She might not know it yet for now but would find out soon.
“You can tell me when you’re ready. I’m not forcing you so breathe, KangSeul.” Then her eyes darted to the melting ice cream of Seulgi. It was just sitting there without any attention given by the latter.
“Let’s just go home. It’s already past 10 in the evening. Your parents might think I’m a bad person for you.”
