Old Love Songs
little bits"OH IRENE! I am but a fool~"
Irene flicks pancake batter at her cheese of a girlfriend. Wendy has been dancing around the kitchen to old love songs and replacing every name with hers. It's pretty cute, not that Irene would ever admit that out loud.
"But if you leave me, I would surely die~" Wendy winks before screaming, "DARLING THERE WOULD NEVER BE ANOTHER!"
"Oh my gosh." Irene stops stirring and burries her reddening face on her hands.
Wendy has a wonderful voice. Irene has always been a fan of her singing, often expressing so. But Wendy singing romantic love songs playfully unrestrained is just so embarassing. Even if it's just them two.
"Oh Irene~" Wendy moves walks close enough to hold Irene in an embrace, head resting over her shoulder as she whispers the next line on her neck, "I'm so in love with you."
"You're so..." cheesy, greasy, adorable. Irene whines, refusing to say anything further when Wendy playfully nips at her ear.
"I'm so what."
Irene scoffs, nudging her giggling girlfriend away lightly for a little space. Wendy pulls away but not too far so that they're still in each other's spaces.
This another thing Irene loves about Wendy. No matter what the circumstances, she's never too far away.
"Are you going to be like this the whole day?"
"Of course not," Wendy grins. "Just until the next few love songs."
The radio station plays a new song as if it had been listening to Wendy. Her Wendy who immediately latches on to the beat to take Irene's hands and pull her into a slow dance.
"I fall to pieces~" she begins to sing.
Irene rolls her eyes but sways along anyway, smile etching almost into permanence as she locks her eyes with Wendy's tender gaze.
"We'll never get brunch done," Irene chuckles.
It's not that she minds, not when Wendy pulls her closer, happy and content in their little kitchen.
Irene rests her head on Wendy's temple, enjoying the soft hums her girlfriend makes over a few lyrics she can't recall.
"You tell me to find someone else to lov—" Wendy suddenly freezes. "Wait, is this a breakup song?"
She could practically feel the small tense moment of silence even with the radio playing in the background. Wendy looks like she wants to take back all the words she's been singing, looking so sad while she's stuttering to explain herself.
"Babe, relax," Irene laughs. "I know you're not breaking up with me."
"Okay, good. 'Cuz I don't and I love you so much that—"
Irene leans in to steal her words with a kiss, fervently reciprocated in generous tongues. She waits until Wendy is relaxed and perfectly sated before detaching warm lips in a smile.
"I love you too."
